Damn, makes you wonder, if he didnt incur that penalty last round for divebombing, would he still have his seat? i wonder if the scrutiny of public opinion had anything to do with his team abandoning him. if he would've been flying under the radar, i think Pons might have kept him on after his DUI

I would think jail and no license would interfere with the normal course of his contract?

Would the DUI interfere with getting work visas to travel to countries where the GPs are held? And I would think sponsorship contracts may have provisions for convictions for any number of offenses which can lead to riders or team members being fired.

I don't have a problem with teams imposing a zero tolerance policy for DUI. Maybe this will be a wake-up call for Barbera before someone gets hurt.

RE: zero tolerance on DUI

during our current Eurotour, Tuono Joice & I have been repeatedly warned that the country itself we’re in (Hungary, Portugal, etc.) has a zero tolerance policy

RE: Barbera - a sad development
I have no strong feelings either way for him or his career, but if FIM can screw US GNCC riders for OTC meds, then this seems in line with current attitudes worldwide

always seemed to be "in the hunt" throughout his career. :afm199

They wouldn't need work visas for GP. But some countries don't allow folks with DUIs in.

In all my travels for work, I've only ever gotten 2 business visas. One for China, because China and the other for Egypt, where I was flying in with a bunch of gear, and didn't want to get pulled aside at immagration.

Edit: Macau as well.

Good excuse to terminate their contract with him IMO.

I made plenty of mistakes when I was younger but am very cautious now and call in when I see drunk drivers.

Impairement may not have been in play for HIM (although I’m sure thorough tests have indicated that there is impairement past .25, and that there is a sharply increasing impact from there on) - but what a shame to see him lose all of that when he was probably just fine to drive.

Hope he lands in MA or something.

I'll never forget Barbera being the victim of Simoncelli's hyper aggression:

Note that Simoncelli swerved into Barbera's path, and bumped Barbera's front brake lever causing the front wheel to lock. On the main straight at Mugello. It took MotoGP way too long to mandate front brake lever guards.
