Skully P-1 what is your take on it?

its a really cool idea. buuuuut a with little HUD and music playing i feel like it would be a lot of distraction for riding through busy streets.

*looks at rearview/pandora/map etc for a couple seconds, boom left turner is in your lane*

it would definitely be an awesome thing to have maps and some laidback cruisin music though.

for it.
-situational awareness, such as lane splitting
-less turning of head. could be highly beneficial for those with neck or back injuries, or getting less of the neck impinging when head checking at high speed, even more valuable for those who might put on a ton of miles in a day
-situational awareness, such as navigation

downsides would be whether people can handle that much information at once. i bet most cannot.

It would be a shame to toss all that tech & money into the trash after a single drop/crash.... and have to repurchase again.

It's the future of helmets. With the speed and pace of technology, I imagine most riders will be wearing something similar in 5 years. Whether we like it or not. Out of my price range. But give it time.

It's in the engadget link. You pair it with your own phone. Monthly fee is what you pay now.

So you need to have a $500 phone along, to go with your $800? helmet, and it won't do bupkiss in most of the fun riding areas anyway, due to lack of signal. :p

I am not weird, you are.
Yea, that's cool. I like it. Especially the rear view. I'd probably opt out of certain things like phone, but that would be handy on long trips. Two way radio for helmet to helmet?

I've got a Reevu helmet with a built in rear view system, no batteries. It's 1st generation so their are some deficiencies, but overall it's a nice feature to have. I don't listen to music while riding, I certainly don't need weather reports chirping in my ear and popping-up in my peripheral vision.

If there were other safety features maybe, or if the bikes gauges interfaced with the HUD, but the more crap you add that requires your attention, you become a danger to yourself. You may as well be sitting in your car. I'm all for cool gadgets but not just for the sake of having them.

You don't need it--there's GPS in the device. But it will enhance the capabilities. Much like using your smartphone to navigate, but without the looking down part. Your smartphone will navigate for you fine in places with no cell signal. At least mine will. And my smart phone cost a lot less than $500--with no plan.

So last night I'm riding with a pair of safety glasses on under my lid and when the visor is down the headlights from cars in back of me appeared as HUD in the top of my periphery. I instantly thought of this thread and that maybe that actually would be pretty cool.

Lets put it this way: The GPS is going to work as well as the SPOT device does. And there' have been a couple threads regarding the performance of THAT unit around here....

Feel free to buy one of these helmets if you want to. In urban areas, (where you probably don't need them :laughing) they'll probably work just fine. If you're a person who goes to other unfamiliar urban areas, they'll probably be great. But if you're a person who rides in hilly areas, without cell coverage, and poor horizon clearance, well...

'Njoy your static. :laughing
