You witness a female employee being sexually harassed at work by a co-worker with more seniority than you.

What do you do?

Pull him aside and tell him to knock it the fuck off. Then notify a supervisor and document the incident.

I would leave it up to the person being harassed if they want to make an issue of it, but offer to be a witness. Things like that could get very ugly, and the person that was harassed may not want to make an issue of it, or may not be as offended from it as a third party precieves. Depending on my relationship with the person doing the harassing, I may tell them to knock it off.

If it was really bad, I would consider telling a superior about it.

Depends on level of seniority and level of harassment. Did the president of the company just call her "sweetie", or did the guy that's worked here two weeks longer than me grab her ass?

Make a note on your calendar with time/location of the incident in case you get called in to make a statement to HR.

Seniority doesn't mean squat in most workplaces anyway. I'd just tell the harasser right then and there to stop doing it.

Curious advice. If you didn't think it was worthy of reporting at the time, why create evidence of it?

I've been sexually harassed by female general contractors before..didn't care for it. Made me feel like a cheap whore. Not expensive or classy at all.
kind of cracks me up that people think women need to be defended...as if they were children or cripples. I am familiar with being the white knight...It feels good to be a hero.
I'm not sexist...in the business arena, I think women can take care of themselves just fine...way more cunning. no pun intended. sort of like project managers.
now, in elevators...

I don't trust people, so the first questions would be geared towards identifying whether or not it really was sexual harassment. But, if it really were and not just a poor choice of a joke, or something like that, I'd tattle-tale like a mf'er.

WRONG on so many levels. "one of my long term employees" Your company or are you a supervisor? Could cost you a lot of $$$ or your job.

Wrong answer. Pass the problem to HR and not put yourself in a position where you will be asked why you did not report. What if she/he said you did it too?



I am a retired HR Manager PHR certification. Have taught Supervisor Sexual Harassment Prevention. Large companies will not put up with any harassment. The offender may not be fired but an investigation will take place, and steps will be taken to prevent it.

Don't say anything, because then they won't suspect you when you put superglue in all the locks at his house, throw a bag full of crazed weasels into his car, put itching powder in all of his shirts, sneeze on all his food and fuck his wife.

Personally, mind my own business. You just never know if it consensual groping, or some game they are playing with each other, or what the fuck.

If it is that big of a deal, she'd deal with it.

Now, if she asked you to help her, different story.

Don't you put yourself in a bad spot by taking the issue to the supervisor who did it? Wouldn't the best thing to do would be talk to the hr person first, then they can take it from there? I'd think that they would then speak with the employee and if it is a problem then take it from there. Employee who witnessed the event would be in a uncomfortable spot for a long time confronting the supervisor.

And - my employee is in her late 60's and looks like a truck driver from Russia, returning retiree for part time work. No risk of lawsuit unless one of her 5 ex-husbands gets jealous.

I'm an HR manager and I keep all sexual harassment forms on the bottom drawer.

This way they have to bend down and I get a great look at her Ass.

if you are a supervisor of any level or have received harassment training you should report it, if you're just a minion, make notes of when, whom and what and save for later.
