Self Defense? (person exposing themselves to another)

Killing a guy flat-out for showing his weenus in the woods also seems like too much to me. I'm just really surprised that the law doesn't seem to take into account who he's showing his junk to, the person's history, etc. I guess that's why these things go to court... It's an interesting discussion--I was lending my viewpoint. This is very educational. I wonder if more people were educated on what constitutes "overkill" would we avoid some of these court cases?

It is taken into account.

A question of generalities will get an answer of generalities. Plus, there's no one size fits all answer to these things. That's why Nick and I have more vaguely worded answers... Like probably, etc. The smallest detail can change things a lot.

Totally understood. Appreciate the input.

Riddle me this.
I don't think using pepper spray as a defense against someone solely exposing themselves would be adequate for self defense, but I also don't find it terribly likely that someone exposing themself would do that as their sole action.

If a guy jumped out from the bushes in a trench coat in front of you and did some flashing, I could see a reasonable person using pepper spray after being startled and expecting worse. Or if someone ran up to you and did the same. This would hold especially true on a rather isolated walking path.

But if you're walking along a trail towards each other for a bit, plenty of warning that they're approaching, and they expose themself and stop in place, I wouldn't say that's a good use. Being disgusted isn't enough to be threatened. If you go the other way and they follow, that might be enough. It'll vary based on the specifics.

Lotsa' angels dancing on the heads of pins on this thread.

But I submit that a dude, having been doused on his exposed wang by bear spray, isn't going to the police to complain about an assault. In fact, I expect the following four hours would be very uncomfortable and embarrassing and he will be very circumspect about who he tells.

When I worked in the city, some methed out dude came into the shop and dropped his pants, sat in front of the mirror we had, and was was fondeling himslelf. I just stood there and the parts guy was with me, we just told him to leave please. "Dude, you're here with your pants down touching yourslelf, you're gonna need to leave."... methed out bro just pulled up his pants, talking to himself and we showed him the door.

was really good experience working in sf. i learned to deal with these dudes, mostly on meth or heroin. they were so messed up out of their minds that they couldn't even find the door to let themselves out.

I was in Oakland at Lake Merritt a year ago and a drunk homeless guy was sitting in a bus stop with his weenie out, pissing on his leg, the bench, and the ground. I called the popo and they came out and talked to him. Then told me that they couldn't press charges because he was so drunk that they couldn't understand him. LMAO. Oaklamd.

Yeah, I can imagine some Sonoma County soccer mom out for her morning walk seeing some guys wanker and freaking out about the indignity and then having to tell her mom's support group all about it. Yes, I know women are hardwired to be sensitive to a threat but there is threat on all different levels. The women on this particular thread were justifying all kinds of violence against the guy.
