Selective response?

Ok, this may come accross as a little rant, as I respect all the police do for us, but...

As some may know, my wife (rinda_girl) was just in an accident. The police and ambulance were called, but the police didn't show up. I have heard of the police not coming to take reports for a non-injury accident, but this was clearly not the case. Ambulance responded and she was taken to the UCSF ER. UCSF took her information and facts of accident and relayed to SFPD.

(At the time, there was a question as to a hit-and-run, as one witness had told her she was hit and she was woozy and didn't really know what happened)

SFPD not only declined to come take a report (for a possible hit/run :wtf) or go interview the witness (who worked at the gas station where accident occurred), they told her to go to the station to file a report :mad Sure that's what she wants to do after getting her bell rung and breaking a clavicle, hopped up on painkillers.

After I got the bike and interviewed the witness, it was obvious there was no hit/run and it was a single vehicle accident. Hence we didn't file a report. However I still am pretty peeved that the SFPD couldn't be bothered by an injury accident, on a very busy road (19th Ave), which initially had the implications of a felony hit/run. This clearly should not have happened, or am I off my rocker? :loco

What is the protocol here, who is/was responsible and is there someone to report this to if we did not make out a report. Thanks!

I cannot speak for SFPD's response, except I don't think that is the response posted in their policy regarding ANY injury accident.

As for UCSF....since I work for the same statewide agency...the UC system, im surprised that they didn't try to find the guy. They are usually a pretty darn good agency there and like to close cases. There is a possibility that they may have been a little busy at the time (they are much smaller than SFPD, in fact, smaller than Berkeley). The shift sergeant may have made a decision to transfer it to SFPD.

I would call a watch commander there and find out what the policy is. I'm not advocating a complaint or anything, but information is always good to have.

I hope that your woman is ok!

Thanks Brash,

I may just wander over there this weekend to ask the policy, I was truely surprised at the lack of action. Knowing now it was a single vehicle accident, theres no need to make a huge stink about it but it still has me ticked. She's doing better, only pain meds at night now.

first off, sorry about your wifey and glad she's going to be okay.

it probably was reported and on the call list for an available unit or motor unit to respond however due to the volumne of calls for service, the response was delayed --- unfortunately this is a common theme here in SF.

go to the station with "jurisdition" in which this occurred, make the report over the counter.
