HI...
Just purchased a 2002 Honda CRF450R and I'd like to do an oil change, break pad and air filter replacement on it before taking it out.

Q1) where should I get the motor oil from ? nearest auto part store or any web sites?
Q2) What type of oil and oil filter do you recommend ?
Q3) what type / brand break pads do you recommend ?
Q4) what type / brand air filter ?

If you haven’t found it already, here is the service manual for the 02-04 CRF450

http://owners.honda.com/assets/ownerlink/model/own_man/powersports/2004/2004_crf450r.pdf

Q1 - Locally, any bike shop will have 10w-40, auto parts stores and even Walmart carries MC oils too

Q2 - 10w-40 in the engine and an 80 or 85w trans oil in the gearbox. Filter, a KN-116 as it’s easily available at Cycle gears and It’s used on all CRF450’s 02+

Q3 - Brake pads, it depends on the type of riding but galfer makes a great product line (dirt or street/track)

https://galferusa.com/product/honda-2002-crf-450-r-front-pads-fd164g1054

Q4 - air filter, depends on if the prior owner updated the box and air boot. A big mod that folks did was remove and swap out the boot for a 05 450 and an airbox from the 04 450. It gave more air flow and removed the backfire screen of the original design. For filter, the more often you change it out for a clean one that’s well oiled and you ensure you grease the outer edge to lock out dirt, the better off you are too

Thank you very much ... exactly what I was hoping for.
I spent a good amount of time looking for the owner manual online, found the 04 but not 02. And I didn't see any comments on the 04 manual that it is also good for 02.
Life saver ... thanks again.

Locally, I would get stuff from Santa Clara Cycle Accessories.

Online, rockymountainatvmc.com You can look up stuff based on the bike you own.

You should do a valve clearance check too

Like David said, spec the valves on that bad boy too and maybe get an hr meter to log your seat time to aid with maintenance.

Thanks ... I think valve inspection is over my head. But at this point, it starts pretty good and has good power ... at least based on my little test ride. I am warming up by tune up and such. My next step is front fork seal replacement, I see a bit of hydrolic fluid on the fork. I am sure I'll back for more tips....thanks everyone.

Hi ... I searched the 2002 Honda CRF450R manual for oil drain "sealing washer" to no avail. Google found references to it being 8mm crush washer .. is this correct? How do I find the right part ? I need these crush washer for both oil and transmission fluid please.

Thanks

First try and see if there’s just a bit of dirt under the fork seal and buy this from Seal Mate. Risk racing makes one and I’m sure there are others too.
Squatch Racing Seal Mate Plus Fork Seal

Cleaning Tool - Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R3WDDQ8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_P7ucFbR655MFM

It saved me and a few buddies numerous times.

Factory parts can be found through Dennis Kirk, RMATV or MotoSport and various others.

For example, here is Rocky Mountain ATV’s site showing factory parts for your bike
