If you come down 1 I would suggest taking 84 to 35 (right on 35) then to Page Mill (left) down the hill. You would be in Palo Alto. If going more south you can stay on 35 to 9 (left) and that would drop you in Saratoga.

Thanks dravnx, now I have to decide between the two! Looks like my final stop tonight will be San Mateo. Thanks for the info Budman.

I ended up taking Jeff's route due to time constraints. I picked up a new bike, so of course there was a lesson or two learned.
1) I set up my tail bag, but the tie downs were too close to the tire (I should've thought twice about this). After a few miles on the goaty Occidental Rd, I reached back to make sure the bag was there, and guess what...it was GONE! Luckily it was 50 ft behind me and no cars had ran it over. As for the road, it reminded me of Naci/Ferg and the FZ handled it nicely.

2)Once I got into SF, I saw a dude on an dirt bike doing wheelies on 101 by Golden Gate Park. I don't live in the city so I never seen this in person. I guess it's not just on YouTube! I wondered why he bothered wearing a helmet if he's riding illegally anyhow. :laughing
3)I like the ergos, slim tank, and torque of the FZ, but the front brake is squishy and the rear brake placement will take some getting used to. I'll need to set up the suspension once I have time.
Other than that, the ride home was fun. I slabbed a bit then took Jolon Rd to Interlake. I would've done 25 to Indian Valley, but I was trying to get home to watch Argentina vs Nigeria :teeth

gone for now
You got really lucky with the bag. A friend of mine had something come off, get caught by the wheel, and lock up the rear (causing a crash and significant injury).

Those are spare bungees i brought in case something happened. I already bought new cords for the tail bag, but obviously will have to rethink the mounting options. Im glad i didnt go down within 10 miles on the new bike!
