I just ran across this video of Michael Rutter on a street legal Panigale at the IOM. Take a look at his speedo at the bottom of Bray Hill! It's hard to get your head around. :wow

Wow! Thanks for posting that. Crazy awesome seeing Rutter just redline the V4 Duc in 6th gear and the speedo just go blank

The screen goes blank because 186MPH = 300KPH, and bikes "aren't allowed" to go more than 300KPH. Some bike have actual governors that cut the ignition when it detects that, obviously this one either doesn't, or they disabled the "feature".

He's getting 15MPG at 186+MPH. That's better than what my Jeep gets commuting to work. Maybe I should pick one up and save some money.

:wow no effing words...

I like to go fast, but in that environment? My wrist would automatically let off, even if my brain said more.

WOW

The gauge cluster is so cool, it blinks and flashes begging for more speed. 180MPH bug splatter!

Oh yeah speaking of Michael Rutter and the IOM TT he broke the TT Zero speed record last year for Team Mugen.

One of the skills needed for TT Zero is one that Rutter shows in abundance, and that's the ability to carry momentum through keeping high corner speeds. His speeds through the faster turns is frightening.

If you are astounded by this stuff - and I am - do yourself a favor and book a trip to the IOM, even if not for the TT. Once you're ridden these roads yourself, you get a whole new frame of reference for what is seen on these videos. Once you've ridden down Glencutchery Road, the idea of descending Bray Hill well north of a buck fifty will leave you truly awestruck.

I was reading an article where a moto journalist was working out at the rack with a former pro. They used extensive telemetry to compare the two riders on identical machines. nearly identical lines and braking markers but not even close in the lap times.

the glaring difference was the throttle input. the pro was nearly full throttle or on the brakes and downshifting. the journalist said he might as well have had an on/off switch where the throttle should be.

that's mind melting. I can count the number of times I've hit the rev limiter. Each time was bewildering as I thought something was broken and took some time to digest what happened and figure it out. Having to be cognizant of it while riding in top gear...

:mindblown

Yeah, Rossi has been to the TT. No, he doesn't want to ride it. :laughing

One thing that is remarkable about this sequence is that there was nothing on the line. This was just an exhibition run. It's just Rutter showing what he can do.

BTW, if you read PB, you'll see that Rutter is a big fan of the V4 Panigale.

I did not know much about Michael Rutter, except seeing him at the BSB, but just found out that his old man won the IoMTT 7 times!
He clearly has it in his blood.

What impresses me with many British riders (and those who have ridden the British isles) is how smooth they are in wet weather.

Maybe someday you'll come across with me, and ride with my friend, Stuart Flack. Riding with Stuart always re-sets my notions of what can be done on a motorcycle. And he does so with no drama, just eye-watering speed, combined with the smoothness of water flowing.

All the Brits I've ridden with have that ability to ride in the wet. They can't avoid getting practiced at it.
