RIP Phil Spector

Rolls with it...
Convicted murderers don't deserve to RIP, do they?

We'll have this same discussion about Robert Blake when he goes... he hasn't gone, right?

If I recall correctly, there are specific TOS rules around an RIP thread. The value of that person to society is not a consideration, my understanding is that in an RIP thread, you are to offer your respectful condolences and maybe talk respectfully about the life of that person, if it is no great loss, maybe pipe in respectfully, otherwise you do not participate.

Again, if someone threads an RIP, I believe there is a specific protocol to be followed. If you start a thread that says, "Robert Blake be Dead, LOL!" then you can talk shit freely, but an RIP title is a call for decorum. I seem to recall this being enforced numerous times in the past, but maybe I am just hella old.

Sometimes a less than savory character will get an RIP thread, because some art they made was very meaningful to the person posting it. Maybe it was the painting they saw or song they heard when their child died, I don't know. Do what you will, I'm not trying to police you. Just trying to remind folks a little bit about what kind of community we want to have around here.

I don't recall there being "official" RIP thread rules. There are guidelines for RIP threads in General, but we always play fast and loose in the 'sink.

The guidelines are for general, for accidents and subsequent blame game bickering, or people way know, or family members might see. No problem with that at all.

Beloved celebrities, no need to crap in those threads. Tainted or infamous celebs, fair game.

Somebody wants to RIP a murderer, not right.

When I started a thread when Whitey Bulger bit it, I didn't give an RIP. It was titled "Whitey Bulger... Dead". Similar threads started that way for Manson, iirc.

Save the RIP protocols of respect for the deserving. Spector is not one of them.

Our informal policy for RIP threads was developed based for threads that discuss motorcycle related deaths. It isn't uncommon for friends and family to find the BARF thread and we want to provide a respectful thread for that potential occurrence. Don't make BARF look bad.

It would be inaccurate to say that we have a blanket policy for all RIP threads. This isn't a pass to post disrespectful behavior.

Thanks for clarifying, I honestly can't recall the details of enforcement in the threads in the sink, I just remember you guys cruising into a few back in the day telling people not to act up. :thumbup
