If I recall correctly, there are specific TOS rules around an RIP thread. The value of that person to society is not a consideration, my understanding is that in an RIP thread, you are to offer your respectful condolences and maybe talk respectfully about the life of that person, if it is no great loss, maybe pipe in respectfully, otherwise you do not participate.
Again, if someone threads an RIP, I believe there is a specific protocol to be followed. If you start a thread that says, "Robert Blake be Dead, LOL!" then you can talk shit freely, but an RIP title is a call for decorum. I seem to recall this being enforced numerous times in the past, but maybe I am just hella old.
Sometimes a less than savory character will get an RIP thread, because some art they made was very meaningful to the person posting it. Maybe it was the painting they saw or song they heard when their child died, I don't know. Do what you will, I'm not trying to police you. Just trying to remind folks a little bit about what kind of community we want to have around here.
