Got to see him and Willie Mays hit home runs in the very first Giants game I ever went to in May 1971.

A lot of baseball greats have been passing lately.

One of the best known names in baseball history after Babe Ruth and Willie Mays, he was an outstanding baseball player and a class act.

I'll bet that a lot of pitchers lived in fear every time they faced him. :laughing

I grew up watching/idolizing Mays. Aaron was a class act. From what I recall, his homerun strength was in his quick and strong wrists.

I was jealous of Aaron breaking Ruth’s record because Mays missed 266 games due to Korean War draft. His first year back he hit 41(?) HRs. He finished at 660 so do the math. He was hitting 1 HR every 3.6 games.

(He would’ve hit another 71 for a total of 731)

Needless to say, Bonds, McGuire, Sosa, A-Rod all cheated and should never been inducted into HOF.

Back to Aaron. A gentleman whose mother and father met him at home plate when he broke Ruth’s record.

PS - have you guys noticed that most of the well known people (celebs, athletes...) that have died in the last year were in their mid 80s?

Very few people make it to their 90's "unscathed", and if you do how good is the quality of that life?

But damn, so many baseball greats in the last year or so.... Brock, Niekro, Sutton, Lasorda, Ford, Bob Gibson....

Hammering Hank :rip

Class act. A great era of baseball greats have been lost this year.

He and Willie along with a few others always will retain my childhood admiration and my grown up respect.

I have never really understood the fascination with baseball, but the dude was a legend for sure. He had a good run. RIP :rose

A giant in the baseball world. Remarkable composure during his approach to the home run record. His hitting ability was more than just home runs. His book is a very worthwhile read. Thanks for the memories Mr Aaron.

Hank Aaron was always my favorite. He was great player and worked hard at it. Most importantly, he was a great role model - there used to be a lot of great role models in sports, not so much any more.

Rest in peace, Henry Louis Aaron.
