RIP: Fatal accident today in Felton

This is terrible news, RIP...

To answer your question about how accidents can happen at low speeds, there are many possibilities.
A few months ago, there was a crash where a rider was taking his cousin as a backseat to show him around. They were driving slowly and at the speed limit according to numerous witnesses.

Unfortunately the backseat, not very used to motorcycle riding, moved while the motorcycle was moving. This led the rider to loose control of the motorcycle and they crashed into an electrical pole, killing both of them. It was a 30mph zone...

I am not saying the accident here has anything to do with this scenario, but it gives you an example as to what can happen at low speeds

doesn't like crashing
Looks like it was right here - pretty straight section, wonder what could have happened...? Has there been any indication if it was a solo incident or involved another vehicle?

When I see these RIP threads I am less interested in how than I am in who. WE lost one of our own and this hurts my heart.

Guys, we don't allow speculation about the cause of the accident in threads like this (usually "RIP" is put in the title). Please start a new thread in General to raise the topic there (you can link to this thread if you like). We'd like this thread to remain a place of honor and respect. We do that in case friends and family stumble upon it. Thanks for understanding.

Looks like a sportster and looks like it <snip>

RIP rider

As far as I know, it was <snip>

That's a known fubar intersection. An acquaintance lost a leg there while out for a mellow cruise.

That giant ass "Henry Cowell" sign doesn't help with visibility for people trying to ingress to the flow of traffic, going both ways.

Without speculating to the cause of the accident(s) (I don't know the area), if that sign actually creates something dangerous for the traffic, it might be a good idea to petition to get it removed/moved away, or other measures implemented (as far as a STOP or a traffic light).

If this really is a dangerous intersection where people are loosing limbs and are being killed, something must and can be done

I live very close to there. Walking distance. Hwy 9 through lower Felton is actually pretty dangerous. Going south from the light it's a sprawl with lots of shops and slow, distracted drivers. Right about where that happened folks tend to speed up but the entrance to the park, a bar, a restaurant and a bunch of feeder streets are still there. You really need to stay under 35mph all the way to Toll House to be safe. A lot of folks don't though. It's a bit of a show with lots of cars, bicycles, horses and pedestrians on the road. Not sure what happened but it's likely that all that, combined with the traffic speed picking up right through there, were major factors.

Ride safe everybody. Keep a lid on it through there.
