We're not large enough to get close for a 103 sound day. Without that, we're jogging the track, unfortunately.
Did you already explore partnering with MA for the weekend? WERA team up? I'd actually think being smaller would mean an easier time for an exmption. Less bikes making noise and certainly only a handful are going over the 103 limit.

To pay more for it :)

Yeah, treasurer's report is an interesting read. Even our pretty good Sonoma round was $20k in the red. Basically, the two Buttonwillow rounds are keeping the club in the black. I want to race Laguna too, but can't see how the club could afford it.

I was reading today that a small boutique motorcycle "tour" company had secured a 105db 2 days in November 2020-

What is the criteria in getting an open sound day if it is being awarded to "small" groups?

This is the outfit claiming an open sound day-

Correction they are Claiming they have secured the ONLY 3 consecutive days at 105db for 2020?

Google tells me that £1,995 is $2622 USD. A high price to pay for 3 days at Laguna..

That's about the number for an entire season of racing (entries) for 1 average AFMer.

It includes 4 nights accommodation and bike transport from the UK. For what's included, I think it's actually pretty cheap! Plus you get 3 full 105 dB days in cold November rain and wind :rofl

wait.. read closer.. Thats SHIPPING a BIKE FROM UK-SHIPPING IT BACK TO UK
3 days at Laguna WITH HOTEL IN MONTEREY for 2622!!

To put this in perspective it cost me 4690US ONE Way to ship my motorcycle to UK... I'd say that someone isnt looking into this.
40 people times 3 groups. The company sold out all spots in less than 10 minutes

Also.
How is it that AHRMA charging 165 for friday Laguna Seca, paractice, 105 for first class and 95 for 2nd class... Someone is getting this done.. I understand its a February date- seems that its not the cost that is prohibiting an AFM event at Laguna Seca. Its is the will to schedule something .

Here I am posing stupid questions about Laguna, meanwhile the AFM flirting with the idea of taking our beloved Sonoma off the calendar. Ouch. :wow

We didn't flirt, we did it. Then we went back and negotiated them fixing the worst areas of the track for us. Jere Starks really stepped up and had good suggestions/ solutions for us. I'm now looking for another Thill date AND a BW date.

This is Excellent developments.

Don't misunderstand Im not harping on a Laguna AFM- Just pointing to a club that was able to get their customers a date there- If Laguna Remains open for business I believe AFM in the next 2 years could arrange an event there

Yeah, the bumps in certain spots were really aggressive. BTW, I really appreciate the summative email you guys sent the members. Great to get a complete picture of everything. :thumbup

My email showed May- October race dates but no track, though when I did snooping around online at tracks, I see we are on calendar for last 4 events at Thill. Is this correct, 6 rounds so far, first 2 at Buttonwillow and then 4 at Thill?

Jere Starks is a fucking Saint of a man. He's one of the people in the business I'll cross the street in a rainstorm to say hello to.

I think that's correct, but it sounded like it's still a bit TBD on whether they can secure a Sonoma round on one of those dates instead of THill. Hence not having a specific track listed for those weekends.

At least we have dates to plan around, that's helpful. Now I just need to find out if we're dropping a race from points since there's only 6 rounds this year...

And an aside: anyone know more about this new track that's going to be built at Buttonwillow? Berto's email had a quick teaser but I want to know more.

We currently have to choose on Sonoma or Thill for Labor day. I've asked for another Thill date, but it's not open so now it's up to working a trade/ acquisition of one through other means. Fortunately, we're decent at this and have done it before...but we need to have a solid attendance for Sonoma. That round is an AFM stable, but also expensive.

I talked to Les today and he's holding a date at the new track for us in October of 2020. The rub is this: it would be our last race of the season and BW has never been the most loved for that...but, NEW TRACK.

Thoughts?

New track...nobody is going to care that its the last round, you will get the attendance. Even more so, the SoCal guys will also be in attendance. I would guess it could potentially be the biggest grids of 2020.

New track! New track! New track! :laughing

I always debate if I'm going to do both BW rounds since they're pretty far for me and that's a loooong weekend, but I'd definitely go to try out fresh asphalt and new corners.

Obviously you guys need to make sure it's a financially viable choice, just letting you know at least one member would be excited for it. :thumbup
