Rider killed in Concord 7/21/19 hit and run

A motorcyclist was traveling east on Concord Blvd. when he attempted to pass a Toyota Prius also traveling east on Concord Blvd. ahead of him. The motorcycle collided with the rear end of the Prius and the solo rider was ejected, landing in the westbound lane of Concord Blvd.

A dark-colored pickup truck, traveling west on Concord Blvd., ran over the motorcyclist while he was laying in the roadway. The driver of the truck continued west on Concord Blvd. and was not located.

Crash happened shortly after midnight.

According to my understanding and reported on the news, the bike was overtaking the Prius and hit the Prius. I dont like Prius's either, but it is hard to blame the car when the bike hit the car while passing at speed. It is on video if you want to watch it.

Oh yea, for clarity, he was run over by a pickup going the other direction when he was ejected and landed in the oncoming lane.

A large white cross now sits on Concord Boulevard near where the motorcyclist was killed. Friends of the victim left it late Sunday night, as they mourn the 28-year-old man they say was like family.

My heart goes out to the rider, his family, and his friends. Reading the accounts on Claycord this was a tragic accident. :rose
Reading the CHP motorcycle web page there were two other fatalities in the Bay Area over the weekend. One near La Honda and the other in Oakland.

I think it is possible that the Prius driver changed lanes into the rider not a lot of detail in the article ( as usual). Those cars have huge blind spots. Toyota needs to do something to reduce the blind spots or increase the size/angle of the mirrors. I was taken out a few years ago by a lady in a Prius pulling away from the curb.

And I do hope the pickup driver is located. Sure they are probably scared shitless but they should have stopped.

That stretch of road is one lane in each direction with a double yellow line in between.
