(CNN) An oil tanker has been hijacked off the coast of Somalia, raising fears Somali pirates could be back in action after almost five years.

The Aris 13, a Comoros-flagged oil tanker belonging to a Greek company, disappeared off the coast of the east African nation on Monday, according to a spokesman for the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), based in Dubai.

EYL, Somalia -- Struggling to push his small fishing boat out to sea, Hassan Yasin grumbles over what he and other coastal Somalis call a threat to their way of life: harassment by illegal fishermen and attacks by large foreign trawlers.

“They will either shoot us on sight or destroy our boats,” the skinny 27-year-old said, yanking on a rope to start the engine groaning. Along the seashore are sand-filled boats that fishermen say belong to colleagues who abandoned the work because of the dangers involved.

... or they died from the illnesses related to all the toxic waste the Italian mafia was dumping in Somalia under the names of dummy corporations .

You can't treat the asshats with kid gloves. I do a lot of fishing off the coast of Florida. We usually head out of Stuart, and we're always armed. Unless you need assistance, there is no good reason for two boats to be within about 50 yards of each other offshore. Thieves know that help is hours away at best. Same goes for these pirates, although the bounty for a oil tanker is much higher than for a 28' fishing boat.

Most of these boats have an armed group on them. I'm wondering if this boat did. If they didn't, I feel bad for them, bit it's kind of an "I told you so" moment.
