I got a safety award by CHP around los banos. Do I really have to go all the way down there for the court date? Can I request something closer to me?

Yes. You'd have to appear at the court in the county it was issued. It is the jurisdiction of the offense, or alleged offense.

You can always first try TBD, Trial By Written Declaration. You can do that from home.

You can request court in the county seat, which is Merced, but you would have to convince them that it's closer, and it isn't in your case.
