Replacing a tire?

Anybody have a recommendation for a shop that would be willing to replace the rear tire on my Goldwing with a car tire? It's getting close to time for a new tire and since the bike spends 100% of it's time vertical, with no leaning at all, I want to put a car tire on the back for longevity and traction. I'd rather not try to do it myself, but I'd like to find a shop, local to San Jose, that has experience with older Goldwings, that can work with a sidecar, and isn't afraid to mount a car tire on a bike.

Thanks everyone!

You won't find anyone with more than a half a brain willing to do it. A completely dumb and stupid idea.

But since you mentioned a side car is part of the equation, carry on......:afm199:twofinger

There's a key word you seem to have missed in his post. I'd recommend reading it again.

Yeah, it remains vertical even when I park it in the garage - the side stand is completely useless! :twofinger

Because of the sidecar dynamics the rear tire (pusher) has sidewall forces more like a car than a bike, and car tires are used quite often - some people even put a car tire up front as well...

Yes, go talk to Patrick at Motoguild SV.

They have a couple of those Harbor Freight ATV lifts sitting around and a couple of platform jacks. And I know he's done the tires from his Fiat on the tire machine, so that taboo has been crossed already.

Those side hack racers with their square tires must not know how stupid they are. :rofl

If you go with car tires, you'll be giving up some potential fun. I had a friend who had a Kawasaki ZX1000 eliminator with a side car. He customized it a bit with '59 Cadillac tail lights and a custom machined spinner for the hack wheel that was sort of like those used on Roman chariots. (Don't stand too close.) Upon taking off from a stop, he would take joy in jerking the side car way up high so the whole rig was balanced on just the motorcycle wheels and keep it balanced that way as he accelerated hard through the gears, only dropping the car back down at the next light so he could stop, which he did in the most squirrely manner possible.

Yeah, flying the chair can be fun to watch, but if the hack wheel leaves the ground my monkey, who is also my wife, would be very unhappy with me, and she would be sure to let me know! :wow I've done it once, with an empty chair, on my old Ural but it will never happen with her beside me! :thumbup
