The F4U is by far my favorite. Back in '93, we made a significant donation to Planes of Fame in Chino to have the operational F4U they had fly out over the ocean, off of Newport Beach, while we scattered my Dad's ashes. He was a USN Veteran and Pearl Harbor Survivor. My brothers and I were pretty sure he would have appreciated that gesture.
We also had a very close family friend that was a Chief of Surgery at a SoCal Hospital that flew the F4U in the South Pacific theater during WWII. The stories he would tell about his experiences in that bird were absolutely incredible. I use to hang on his every word, completely awestruck. And they were just kids, then.
