Recommended Lap timers

I am looking into lap timers. Are there any out there that people recommend? Are there any to avoid? Which ones are compatible with the transmitters used at Sears Point and Thunderhill? Any comments or suggestions would help. :confused

MyChron and XT Racing are the main ones. Both are cross-compatible with their beacons.

My main gripe with the old MyChron Lites was that the user interface was not very intuitive. Reliable though.

I have an XT, and the interface is friendlier, but after a year of use, it has proven to be somewhat fragile. Frequently opening it up to re-connect wires/harnesses that have become undone. It's got somewhat of a "electronic kit project" feel too it. Some folks have also said it is not as reliable as the MyChrons (in terms of picking up the signal).

MyChron has a new one out called the MyChron Lite TG. Much better user interface, and seems just as rugged as the old ones. If I were buying new, that's probably what I would get today.

Thanks for the quick response! My other question is about the price. Is there anywhere I can get one for closer to $200? or are they really that expensive:cry This might be Christmas+Birthday gift :(

You can easily get a receiver for less than $200, you don't really need the transmitter. Somebody at the track is bound to have one.

don't get an XT, they are very poorly constructed. mine stopped working after less than 4 months. i guess crashing didn't help.

If you still have it, send it to me. I might be able to fix it for ye... if I don't what have you lost?

My buddy binked with his and we revived it.

If is it smushed, then forget it!

You know there is something called a warranty :laughing I cracked my screen after over 1 year so the warranty didn't cover it, but they replaced the screen for a flat rate of $30 shipped back to me. I was pretty rough with mine though, throwing it in a bucket with tools and stuff. So I'm not surprised the screen broke.

p.s. I happened to be borrowing someone else's XT while mine was being fixed... and I crashed with it :blush It suffered no damage, and I think it even fell off the bike as it was tumbling in the air.

My XT made it through a turn 2 crash bike upside down it scractched the face pretty good and it still works. But it's the 2nd one I've owned the 1st one also quit working after a few rides and i got the 2nd one for free (ya know that warranty thing)
