Yeah, fly into PV mexico, at the airport take the ped bridge over the road and catch a local bus to Sayulita (only a couple of bucks). Once in Sayulita, walk to the trailer park. They have bungalows of varying size and amenities, but also have rooms with shared bathrooms that I think are pretty cheap. Rent a board from town or from someone on the beach.

They have a left and a right. The right is pretty crowded with locals and beginners alike. The left, when it's firing, is super fun, but can be crowded with local groms that can catch a ripple:laughing Also, SUP has made it there too.:thumbdown

One thing though, I was there a whole week once where it was practically a lake, it started firing the morning I had to leave:(

edit: Actually, you can camp in Sayulita too, right next door the the trailer park. It has sort of a hippy / ravey/ dreadlocked vibe, if that's your thing.

One thing: Do NOT go during Semana Santa, it seems all of Mex goes there during that week.

Another option is to drive down to Baja and camp. There are a few easily accessible spots south of Todos Santos: Cerrritos and el Pescadero (has a camp ground).

Punta Conejo up the coast can be epic, but it's a hard drive and blows out early. One of the local fisherman will collect a tax to camp there.

Cabo and the east cape can be great. Zippers, the rock and places nearby can be really crowded and have sort of a shitty vibe. But can also be a ton of fun. If there is a solid south swell the east cape (eg. Shipwrecks and on) can be fantastic and you can pretty much camp anywhere...or at least that used to be the case.

Fly to Loreto, BCS, Mexico, rent a car and drive to Scorpion Bay.
No way you can do a 4-5 day Baja trip driving. You could if you went just south of Ensenada but it isn't going to be warm.

The Cabo suggestion is good because flights are cheaper than to Loreto and there are plenty of little places to stay in the $30-$40 range. Surfboards can be rented in and around Cabo but I don't know how good they are. If you go now you can piggy back whale watching/touching and swimming with whale sharks.
Just going down to swim with whale sharks (La Paz) is better than surfing, imo. You can surf anytime/anywhere.

I enjoyed my stay in La Jolla (basically San Diego). The travel lodge had very reasonable rates and was in walking distance to the beach. It is not a fancy hotel, but a very good location. Water temps were very comfortable.

I missed the the 4-5 day part:|

If your find yourself near Ensenada, Salsipuedues is good spot that has camping. It's also an awesome name.

Ditto for DrSwade's suggestion. Scorpion Bay/San Juanico is a Baja at its best destination. There's a small hotel there & grub to be found. There's several breaks, I have friends who go there every year for a surfing vacation. I've only seen it on a dirt bike after loading up on tacos for lunch in between Mulege & San Ignacio. There's some websites that will provide more info.
