Recommend me a dirtbike for my daughter

Resurrected Newbie
I'm looking for an idea on what dirt bike might be suitable for my 11 year 80# 5' tall. She has long legs just like her mom with a short torso. I'm looking for a first bike for her.
Thanks for your time posting.

Wow, 11 yo, 5 foot tall... i dunno, perhaps a kiddie throw away bike for the first couple of months, then a CR500?

I dunno. Some kid bike to learn the basics. Then a real motorcycle.

BARF hive? Speak.

TTR 110 with e start; has auto clutch and 5 gears. This is what my girls liked around 8-10; small wheel, easy to ride without having to really learn to ride. Easy to re-sell for the same price

TTR 125 with e start: clutch 5 sp, more capable but may be intimidating to start with. Available in both big and small wheels; easy to re-sell for what you paid.

Unless she is really gung-ho about riding I'd start with the 110 (or even a 90) and let her get into it, e start helps a bunch. We started with CRF 70's but they'd kill it then couldn't re-start when by themselves. Re-sell as needed and buy something else as her skills and confidence grow.

Have her ride the future Sur Ron Light Bee, all those gas bikes will be obsolete in a decade or so anyway.

Brilliant Merlin, and some truth.
A Light Bee or some such would be a great starter. Until physics change gas powered will be with us. ...Says the guy with three Altas.

Yeah, get a Sur Ron if you can.

Taught my daughter on an XR100, learning the clutch wasn't an issue. Those bikes are DURABLE!

I bought my daughter a 110, she's 5 ft 1-1/2" and it's almost too small for her.

That model of electric is gonna be obsolete in a decade as they advance. I'm sure in a decade those electrics will be something. My 2 stroke dirtbikes are gonna be classic ($$$) especially here in CA.

I'm all for electric dirtbikes but I still think they need some time.

I have rode a sur Ron and it is cool as hell but nothing more than a play bike especially for a guy my size. In this case it would be great for a kid to learn on since it is ultra light, no clutch, and smooth power delivery. I say start them off with the real deal holyfield though.

I'm sure the Alta is a legit dirtbike. We just need the big 4 to step into that market to get some real momentum. I welcome the electric

The Sur Ron Storm bee looks promising...

Was that her first motorcycle experience or just dirt experience?

It was her first dirt. She took the Garrahan dirt school at Metcalf. Then bought the KX. Right now she's doing her very first top end overhaul. She's like a sponge. Likes learning everything.

XR100/CRF100 is approachable, simple, durable. Easy clutch to learn. Big wheel bike will suit her size. Honestly starting out with a regular clutch right off will be better, it was great for my kid.

TTR125L. She will be able to ride it for years and for the most part go just about everywhere you go. Little tough mountain goats. One kick bikes with no choke needed if you put in the easy start jets. E start is a perk but not necessary. My daughter is 15, about 5'5" and just outgrew it after 2 years (but really she started late, so I say... a 4 year growth span bike), it was her first motorcycle. And yeah, you can sell it for what you paid years later. There is also the TTR125 (non L) small wheel that's a little smaller. I'd go with the L though. I've got a stock shaved down seat that we never used but came with my daughter's bike that I might be willing to trade (even temporary for your stock seat) that will bring the seat height down 2-3".

Haha, outgrow is relative.
My wife loves her ttr125le.

Completely agree. However my daughter and I found its limitations up at high altitude Mammoth doing steep soft powdery hill climbs where it actually managed to run out of power and bog down half way. Surprised the hell out of me because I was a HUGE believer and pusher in rev it up in the right gear.... yeah, 1st gear was too slow and 3rd gear was too high and bogged down too easy, 2nd gear...... only got her 3/4 of the way up. My 300XCW, I just easily moderately chugged up to the top on the same climb. Also the smaller wheels were starting to be a hinderance on really rocky terrain with smaller boulders. Now it just rolls over the rocks and obstacles with much greater ease.

I preferred not having to go to a KX250F (that i modded for slow speed technical trail) but the only option between that and the TTR125L was the rare and expensive(used) klx140G.

Well if you must get a gas bike I would suggest the KLX140. They make them in 3 flavors so the whole family can ride together. KLX140, KLX140L, and the KLX140G. It's electric start and has disc brakes. Not intimidating to ride at all. There's the CRF150L which is close to this bike also.
