Rain Season begins - where to ride?

Actually, just got back from a 4 day ride through death valley. It was awesome, and Friday the weather was in the mid 70's. Raining here in Marin, so we made the right call. there are some great roads to explore down there. One was highway 266 to 168 across the north end of Death Valley. Does get kind of high, up to 7400 feet, but a fun ride none the less.

I kind of get and don't get the dry vs. wet dirt ride preferences. Dirt riding is at lower speed and more physical than street so cooler weather is better. Summertime it gets dusty but it's only a problem if you ride with a group. Traction is great when the dirt is damp and firm, but I don't know if and why people would like mud - it's so messy.
