Race suggestions?

I've been lurking on BARF for awhile now, from street ('92 Duc 944 ss) then into SM ('00 LC-4 with plenty'o mods) and finally back into dirt ('93 KTM 550 MXC with plenty'o mods). What I'm looking for is direction about which venues, sanctioning bodies etc I should look into for some fun, friendly competition. I learned to ride dirt at 5 and have had at least one motorcycle(mostly street) in my possession every year since I was 15. My Dad raced MX in the 70's and we owned/ran a track for 4 years when I was a Pup.

I'd like to run my 550 (just love that motor) and I'm 38 so Vet class rules look right. As far as experience I don't have any for racing and I have a newborn so chasing points and driving 2 days for a three day race weekend isn't going to happen. I'm in fairly good shape but will do some training for this and am thinking enduro or hare scrambles style events. MX starts and banging bars into turn 1 can be fun but its not the type of racing I want to do. I'm trying to get a plan for next year (a year from now) so there's no huge hurry, just curious about people's experience around here for different events.

Thanks for any feedback.

Moab on my mind
Join D.36 and race hare scrambles, GPs, enduros, and family enduros.

HS starts can be a little hairy. But the races themselves are no-brainers, 2-3 hours long. Enduros require timekeeping skills and equipment and often have very difficult obstacles that turn into logjams. 4-5 hours with some 5-10 minute breaks. Family enduros are kinder and gentler.

The clubs that put on the races do terrific jobs. For example, they make a somewhat interesting race course out of otherwise boring Prairie City and they make Hollister (upper ranch) and Carnegie downright fun and challenging.

Thanks for the replies, I'll look into those events. I can't make Prairie City this weekend but I'll definitely check some of these out, they're not too far.

Sandhill Racing

If you just want to have some fun racing, join us on the oval track at Sandhill on Friday nights under the lights. There is no points or scoring but we do give chase for 5-10 minutes at a time and it gets (friendly) competition. There is also the Hangover Marathon every year but unfortunately you just missed that a couple of weeks ago. Coming this spring is the King of the sandHill race. These races are only $30 with no race cards or other hidden fees.
