'09 SV 650S is high.

The MSRP price is $7499.

How much do you think this bike is really worth? If I was going to purchase one, what would be a good OTD price?

no need for brand new. esp since the intention here (at least for newbs) is to learn on something. learning may lead to some damages.

Damages on used is less hurtful than on a brand new one. Plus imo sv650 is a stepper up bike good for a season/yr.

Check the sv650 specfic forums to see what people are paying OTD. You probably don't need to register to view the forum, and hopefully don't need to register to search the forum.

Some people see the sv650 as a starter bike, but let's not forget that the sv650 has a really good reputation as being a reliable commuter and a well-balanced motorcycle. It seems that many people use it as a track bike, and the only major complaint I hear about the sv650 is the fork.

What does this question mean? Can you be more specific? Are you trying to find out dealer cost? Or the price of a used one?

Suzuki set the price at $7499 because people buy the SV at that price. The 2007 version, identical in every way (I think) was a grand less, but I think that was almost too cheap for such a capable, fun bike. At $7499 it's not as good a deal, but still worth it.

Look for a clean used one. They are all the same from 2003-2009.

Just buy a used one for a lot less than that, especially since it's your first. They're hardly in short supply, and are hardly finicky machines that need precision maintenance or they blow up.

Go in with cash and tell them you do not want to pay anything over 500.00 for what they got it for. Be stern and let them know that you want to keep your business in the area but have no problems taking it elsewhere if they are not willing to work with you. Remind them that others are eager to sell you a bike and that they have a sale ready right now for 500.00 over what they paid for it.

Also let them know that they will make up that money in repairs and accessories for the bike that will be purchasing at some point in the future.

Remember - They need the business, you don't need the bike. Don't get caught up in their sales hype!

+1 on the used sv, I thought i was never going to drop mine... I was wrong. I would have been a little more upset

If it's going to be your first moto, then seriously consider getting a lighter, used bike that you won't mind dropping/crashing. Which is what newbies do in getting used to riding and balancing on their bikes. For example, a used DRZ400SM will teach you a lot about riding and you won't bin it just twisting the throttle from a stop. Plus the insurance will be so much lighter on the wallet.

The SVS is a great bike; suspension needs to be upgraded and some other mods depending on your inseam and arm length. Still if you decide to get it, then consider getting handguards along with frame and axle sliders. The handguards look kinda funky but they will save your tank from being dented in a drop/crash.

Find one that's used, maybe even dropped a couple times. It's a learner bike, not a fashion statement anyways.

A big-ass lab used the left-side front and rear turn indicators as chew toys on my first bike. This was before I bought it. I named the motorcycle after the dog.

I almost bought a new sv650 for my first bike, but I ended up spending $2100 instead out of pocket for a used bike. I ended up "selling" my first bike close to what I bought it for and bought the bike I wanted, which I didn't know until I had been riding for a while.

Do what you think is best for you, but most people on here are probably not riding their first motorcycle and can offer some good advice.:ride

Well so much for the '09 SV650. I just received the boot from my job. The recession has finally caught up with me. I will have to wait before I can even think about getting a used bike. I'll keep an eye out and hope for the best.
