Rode up to the junction today. Locals say theyre planning on re-chip-sealing the parts they already did from the junction on up towards ham.

Cant recall when he said it'd be but its soon.

Just one more great reason to ride DIRT, Mud, sand, gravel... All the off road stuff.

Then, bring on the chip seal, no matter what stage , or who did it... Ain't No Big Deal

Um, they are definitely repaving sections from the junction up to the top of Hamilton.
It is baby smooth in some parts, so fun.

But be very weary, the road from the junction up to the top is coated in dropped asphalt, slippy slide-e.

For anyone reading this who doesnt know, to chip seal, I believe they drop down a bunch of oil/tar, then cover it with a bunch of rocks, and then flatten it down (do they even flatten it?)

So you can see why little pieces of rock and some oil would be a problem for most riders! Keep some in reserve till you see road conditions

so awhile ago, there were some heavy winds after a mines chip seal, and about 5 hairpins from the top, the chips blew into a depression in the road just after apex and my early accel got ends swapped...it was invisible, exact same color and texture as the regular..black ice except it was about 3/4" of straight chips. Only my ninja trained reflexes saved me from a high side wipe out.
My momma always told me..Mines Rd. is like a box o'choclates...open it up and you never know what you'll find..

have fun!:ride

Regardless of Lou's expert opinion, freshly chip sealed roads on a nose heavy sport bike are not fun. I don't care how many years of dirt you have....

I had an incident in 2010 when CalTrans helpfully chip sealed Tunitas (and their sub-contracted crew didn't sweep or put up signage, thanks!) leaving a couple of inches worth of gravel in the apex of a turn.

Thanks OP for the heads up, will treat 130 as sketchy for a while. :ride

How realistic is it for me to be able to sweep it myself, if they end up doing a shit job? Tools: A pickup and a broom

Seriously. Would it be worth even trying?

I think are talking about San Antonio Valley Road, which is highway 130 between Mt Hamilton and the Junction. Last Sunday there were some repaved sections, some loose macadam from that work, and at one place, a sweeper parked on the side of the road...

Chip seal is pretty ugly right after they put the gravel down.

Would a flat tracker call fresh chip seal ugly?

Or say Woo Hoo, Now we're Talkin?

Yep. When they did RRW back in 88', it was 4 inches deep gravel. Had to slide my way all the way from the intersection of Pinehurst & RRW to CV. I was creaming my fender w/thrown gravel, but had a ball sliding around the entire road until I got out of it...weeeee!

Think I'll check it out on the Multi. Long-travel semi-active suspension FTW. What is this "chip-seal" you speak of? :teeth
