Practicing for Pike's Peak..... Edit to add results

Colorado Mike

I wrote that ------>
Ahhh home! Growing up in Colorado Springs I always loved this time every year with racers from all over the world coming into town!

That's a cool video/cam setup for sure. Really shows the beauty and the 1 screw up=dead perspective :wow

Chris Filmore is a badass, and I found out semi-recently that a coworker/friend of mine was good friends with him, though they haven't talked in some years.

I did it on my XR400 with knobbies. I think I had about 5 horsepower by the time I hit the top of the mountain. But to be honest, I'm extremely glad I did it on a slow bike because I would hurt myself.

Are we having fun yet?
That camera movement and perspective are magical, physics defying like CGI, as if the camera was magnetically floating above the tank. The view is almost better than actually riding the bike. Also, the video is very instructional. The ride was obviously fast as hell, but all the movements were fluid and unhurried.

electric car rocks the Race to the clouds.

A electric Volkswagen driven by Romain Dumais set a new overall Pikes Peak International Hill Climb record, racing up to 14,115 feet in 7:57.148. The previous overall record of 8:13.878

Volkswagen built a prototype EV with 680 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. A 43-kWh battery feeds juice to the all-wheel drive monster, with an electric motor on each axle that can propel it to 62 mph in 2.25 seconds. Total weight on this bad boy is less than 2,425 pounds.

“The King of Mountain, the King of every mountains.”

Legendary Ducati racer Carlin Dunne has led the 2018 Spider Grips Ducati Pikes Peak team to victory and reclaimed the crown as King of the Mountain during this year’s annual running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (Official Site). Dunne completed today’s “Race to the Clouds” in 9:59:102.

This is Dunne’s fourth victory at Pikes Peak.

“We did it. We took the podium,” said Dunne, who notably was the first motorcyclist ever to traverse the 4,720-foot Pikes Peak race course in less than 10 minutes in 2012. “The Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak proved as amazing as we all hoped. It performed flawlessly, giving me everything I needed to get up the mountain. Pikes Peak is never an easy race, but the weather cooperated and we clinched the victory for Ducati.”
This is Ducati’s seventh victory on the mountain since the company’s debut in 2008. Ducati and Dunne held the all-time course record from 2012 until 2017, a year in which Ducati was not part of the official race competition. Dunne’s previous victory in 2012 was achieved on the game-changing Multistrada 1200 S.

This year, Dunne secured the win on the new Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak model. The new Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak showcases the versatility of a new, larger displacement 1262 cc Ducati Testastretta DVT engine delivering 18% more torque in the mid-range. The bike is also paired with a redesigned chassis for increased stability.
Rounding out the Ducati team this year was new member Codie Vahsholtz, who finished in third with a time of 10:12:703. Vahsholtz is a Colorado native who comes from a family of Pikes Peak champions and has established a series of victories of his own.

This year, for the 96th running of the “Race to the Clouds,” Ducati partnered with Shell Advance, Brembo, Pirelli, Termignoni, Spider Grips, Ducati by Rizoma, Race Tech, Revl and Racing Cowboys.

Interesting comments on the race on the PP's FB page. A lot of unhappy people on the web feed of the race.

Guess the crew doing the broadcast did not like motorcycles:

"Poor coverage at it's best, but now it's gone completely. Who put this together? Terrible job all around and mostly listened to three people continually talk and talk and cameras set up with no-one there to zoom or follow drivers. I felt they did care much for the motorcycles as they talked around them as they were running as if they weren't even there at times. Switching camera positions was very sloppy and advantages of using zoom with position could have covered large areas of the course even with the (static electricity situations)"

I was planning on going to the shop and congratulate him on Ducati pulling their heads out of their asses and giving Carlin the seat he deserved. But I didn't. Will have to try harder to get to the shop and congratulate him on the victory. Way to go Carlin!!!
