Practice ideas

Makes the rest look good
So, I know I haven't been in the AFM long, nor am I fast but I wanted to throw something out, that I personally would like to see happen and hopefully some of you would like to see the same.

Everyone racing on Sunday gets their one free practice in the morning, but if the guys racing Saturday want to practice, they have to pay for the whole day. I personally would just like to get the one practice session in on Saturday just to get the bugs (which I have many) out, make sure any adjustments I have made are good, such as tire pressures etc.

I was hoping there would be some way for the ones racing clubman, afemme, formula 40 and so on could get one practice session in like on Sundays. Or even have a "one practice session option" where you pay $25 so you can have just one, vice paying $125 or so for the whole day.

I know everyone won't agree to it, but I wanted to play with the idea here on BARF to see where it went.

Thoughts?

I dont know if you know, but AFM email system works like a charm. Barf forum is more popular than AFM forum, but valuable suggestions like these should be posted at AFM forum or via emails.

An example, AFM tech replied to me via email on a simple question on Friday night before the races. You have a great point, and should bring it up at the AFM forum or meeting. We are fortunate that Berto and Wallis conttribute to AFM related questions on Barf

you can sign up for 1/2 day and just do the after lunch sessions
I actually just went to register to check it out and didn't see a half day sign up. Is this something you do at tech the day of?

I have been on the AFM forums and they are dead, no one really pays attention to it. You are correct though, AFM is very responsive to their emails and they promptly respond with informative answers. The reason I bring it up here, is to see if it would be worth bringing up at one of the meetings. Berto is great when it comes to addressing issues/concerns/ complaints here on BARF. I think some of the Novice/ Expert separation changes were made this past weekend, due to opinions here.

Dont remember seeing that option, thanks

I'm not sure it's an option on the registration menu; it may be something I am simply familiar with doing.
Put a note in the "comments" box (when you sign up) that you only want a 1/2 day, or just tell Paddy when you sign in (and then she will ask you to come back at lunch and finish signing in)

The only downside is that you wont be allowed actually sign in or to tech until lunch time.

I check the forums at least once per day, as do several others.
They are slow (especially compared to BARF), but it is the best place to get comment to the board.
BARF does get consideration, but doesn't carry the weight of an email to the BoD or a post on the AFM site.

Most of the changes in the starting procedure was from track side feedback and functional evaluations. R2 was the first time it had been done and much was learned, so changes were made for R3. Hopefully, the process will be pretty firm for R4, but since it's a different track, some new lesson will have to be learned I'm sure.
Thanks!

+1! Emails are also great as the anonominity is absent, contrary to what a post on BARF offers (although we do know who each other are here mostly). BOTH are good...as Dave said, I check the forums alot (along with Wally). Many of the board read BARF, but don't post as well.

It's doubtful we'll change the practice rules for this year Vic. Sorry.

...for limited time...
I was going to say that you can go out on any 5 board so that would be good for around 4 laps on Saturday.
Then I realized that you would need to tech first and if you tech, you get charged, right?
Seems like the half day would work for you but that wouldn't be many laps for the $$.

So just to clarify since I'm new to this too. If I don't do practice on Saturday but plan on racing clubman, I need to wait til when to run through tech? also if I do only a half day of practice, where do I find out how much that costs?

Off the topic,

Thanks for making the "start at same flag" change for Novices & Experts. That was much needed and offered better competition.

Most of the changes in the starting procedure was from track side feedback and functional evaluations. R2 was the first time it had been done and much was learned, so changes were made for R3.
Thanks!

Not running practice Saturday but running clubman. You can go to tech in the morning or come back after lunch for tech.

Thanks Berto and Dave for your responses. I didn't expect anything to happen immediately, just wanted to use this thread as a gauge to see if I am the only one with these thoughts and then pursue something afterwards. I would expect that by the time it was actually put in place, I wouldn't be running clubman anymore, to young to run F40 and the sex change operation is too expensive, so the thought would have left my mind haha.

You wont be able to tech until 3 o'clock if you're not going to practice at all.

reason is that the practice groups stickers are the same for full/ half/ and no practice, so the track side folks have no idea what you're up to. You could run right out in practice and nobody would know any different, so they wont tech you until this possibility has passed.

You'll have to email in to find out the exact cost... entry@afmracing.org
its not "half" exactly, but it's been a while since I've done it (I havent been actively racing) so I dont want to give numbers out.
