Okay - the winter holiday season is coming up. Let's share some recipes: what desserts/snacks/dishes do you like to take to parties, or like to just enjoy on your own?

I'll start: being from Western Canada it was always a treat to take the ferry between Vancouver and Victoria as kids because if we were good we got to enjoy a "Nanaimo Bar" on the ride. So, every year I make several batches of Nanaimo Bars to share with friends and family. There are many recipes available online - I usually use this one but I modify it by doubling (or tripling!) the ingredients in the top layer - it's decadence personified! Basically butter, sugar, and chocolate - a perfect treat!

Kurosaki

Akai Suisei - 赤い彗星
Ingredients

■ 1 cup of ice
■ 1 1/2 ounces tequila
■ 1/2 ounce triple sec
■ 1/2 ounce lime juice
■ 3 ounces sour mix
■ Garnish: lime wedge
■ Optional: salt for rimming glass

Steps to Make It

01
Pour the ingredients into a blender.

02
Blend until smooth.

03
If the mix is too thick once blended, add more juice.

04
If it's too thin, add more ice.

05
If desired, salt the rim of a chilled margarita glass.

06
Pour contents into the glass.

07
Garnish with the lime wedge.

I don't have any favorite holiday recipes per se but for the last couple of years I have tasked myself with making the bakes from The Great British Bakeoff Masterclass series. Last weekend I made a trifle with homemade lemon pound cake as the base, strawberry mousse (using gelatin for the first time), trifle custard and whipped cream on top. It was ugly as hell but tasted pretty good. :) The other dessert that I made which was super fun was a baked alaska. We have an ice cream maker now so I'm going to attempt the whole thing from scratch. :)

My SO loves the white chocolate cheesecake I made last x-mas. May have to try that one again. :)

My wife makes nanaimo bars and shortbread cookies every holiday season. Both from her grandmother's recipes. I could eat them until I die. She also makes a chocolate sour cream bundt cake with ganache on top that I can't get enough of.

The recipes are confidential :twofinger

My favorite dessert recipe is the one someone else makes and I get to eat.

I do a German Chocolate Cake with homemade Pecan and coconut frosting that my wife has decreed shall not be made more than twice a year as she will eat it all by herself if allowed.

For me it's the egg nog. It's like crack cocaine to my brain. I hold out as long as I can before I have any because once I get going I can put on some serious weight. I try my best to keep it under a quart per season.

Never tried to make my own. I would do it year round if I got good at it. I like a few different brands. Buds ice cream company makes a great one or did anyway.
