We all know that demand for used motorcycles tends to slow down come the winter time, and with that prices tend to dip, only to come back up when the warmer weather returns. However, with the whole pandemic thing this year, used prices have been kind of crazy, so come this spring, as the Covid vaccine gets dissemination, do you expect used prices will go up, down, or stay the same?

Bonus question: Why?

I say they will go up.

Because I believe we will see prices of fuel go up and cabin fevered (to the extreme) people will still want to get out, more than ever, to do something. And moto's are fun.
As well as economical.

But, most importantly---> I plan to sell 3 or 4 of my bikes next year and higher prices help me out, and barf as well if they sell here! :thumbup :teeth

For most people motorcycles are not transportation, they are for recreation. Too many people short on money and if it is between the old Honda Civic and the new R1 the R1 gets sold. Prices will drop on used bikes. If the vaccine works this may change, but the summer will be over by then.

Stay the same

Idiots asking too much for their beaters/high mileage bikes
Good deals to be had coming up here and there
Iots of average deals

Used dirtbike prices will continue to climb with the red sticker ban incoming.

Street bikes will be the same

It's all going to come down to perception. If people view a motorcycle like an outdoor activity, then it will go up like every other outdoor piece of equipment has during the pandemic (kayaks, etc.). If it is just viewed as transportation, then down, way down.

I also say "stay the same" overall. I've heard various folks mention they've put off wanting to get into motorcycles because of the instability in job/economy. I would fathom come some normalcy, perhaps beginner bikes may ask for a higher asking price but by how much? - prob. cancels out to nothing in the grand scheme of thing.

Stay the same.

Reason: Used prices are so high right now, that for 1~3 year old bikes they are very close to buying a new, leftover model from a dealer. So there is no room for the annual spring price increase. Won't go down either: riding is a nice outdoor hobby which doesn't require interaction with others. Ppl in SFBay - despite the current situation - still have disposable income.

Go down. People need to get back to work but there will be a lot less small businesses to work at. Motorcycles in the US are toys. People will be worried about bills.

Having said that I was wrong about the economy for the past 9 months. Everything thing that I want is booming.

Rolls with it...
Everyone I know in the business (one dealer here, one back east) is scrambling for used bike inventory. One goes to the auctions and told me the inventory is weak and over priced.

Anecdotal I know, but he's going into his 5th decade in the business... :dunno

Covid buying brain is completely irrational, CL has used kids dirt bikes at nearly double the MSRP and people are buying them. I had to come back for an edit and say the frenzy buying now is likely to result in a flood of used
bikes in 18 months or so, or when people realize they are taking up space and not being used. We can count on a recession putting downward pressure on used bike/boat/sport cars/etc, market...2008-2010 was a great period to be a cash buyer

In case anyone isn't up on what the "red sticker ban" really means, its explained at the link below - TL;DR Red sticker bikes can be sold through 2021. Red sticker bikes through 2021 MY are grandfathered in and starting 1/1/2025 can be ridden year round.

Depends on the kind of moto. I think street bikes will either hold, or go down more. Dual sports will continue to climb, they still sell fast, and for absurd amounts of money. Dirt bikes will likely stay the same, or climb.

Unless there is some sort of market crash/correction, I don't see used vehicles in general going down much, if at all. Every time I've seen, for example, used modern sports/muscle cars go up, they never went down afterwards, despite everyone saying they'll go back down. This happens over and over. Too many people overpaid for both new and used, and they'll expect to sell for a minor loss, so what we see now is the floor. The only models that will go back down, are the specific models that fall out of favor, or that flood the used market all at once.
