Do you think sex and gender affect your response to infectious diseases? In TWiV 624 Sabra Klein discusses just that; the effect of sex, gender, and age on viral infectious disease, including COVID-19. Fascinating is not a strong enough word. As in recent episodes, Daniel Griffin continues to provide a clinical update on COVID-19 at the top of the show.

TWiV 625: Fred Murphy, virologist for all seasons

TWiV 625 is a special episode where Vincent and Rich visit Fred Murphy. This is a bit of a break from the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. There's a little discussion about SARS at the beginning of the show but it is mostly focused on Fred's wide-ranging career in virology, spanning many institutions, involving dangerous viruses like rabies virus, Ebolavirus (he took that famous iconic image), Marburg virus, Lassa virus, coronaviruses, and later writing a history of the field.

TWiV 626: Ralph Baric and fancy ferrets

Daniel Griffin provides his weekly clinical update on COVID-19 in TWiV626. Please note that Daniel’s update is only in the audio version of this episode at the beginning. Always worth spending some time listening to Daniel. Ralph Baric, coronavirologist extraordinaire, returns to TWiV and discusses SARS-CoV-2 transmission, vaccines, diagnostic tests, and a new animal model from his laboratory that does not use transgenic mice. This is a long episode but, as ever, it's packed full of useful pandemic related information.

TWiV 637: Clearing the fog of ignorance

I've done what Vincent hates and skipped an episode to keep with the coronavirus theme. In TWiV 637, there's some great chat about vaccines with the approval of an Ad5 vectored SARS-CoV-2 vaccine for the military in China, description and clinical trials of a Novavax vaccine joining Operation Warp Speed, prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in Spain, shedding and transmissibility of the virus, and listener email.
