Playstation 4 vs Xbox One

Thinking about getting one for the missus as an "unbirthday" present. In terms of the last gen consoles, we had the Xbox 360 (replaced like 3 times due to RROD :cry :laughing) and the Wii. Spec-wise and seeing the side by side for them, it seems like the PS4 is the winner... but I'm wondering if the game lineup will do it for her. She generally enjoys shooting the crap out of stuff with me in coop shooters (she's a monster in Borderlands/Halo) and she likes watching me do terrible things in games like GTA. :laughing :laughing The only type of game I'll pick up the controller for are racing sims and I enjoyed the Forza series on the 360 quite a bit (trigger buttons for gas & brakes were brilliant I thought).

So, that being the case, which console should I pick up and at what price point? Do I hold off 'til Black Friday? (I refuse to wait in lines however)

I hate, HATE my xboxone. Takes forever to load games, a lot of games require you to play online instead of single person, and the setup is horrible.

My PS3 crapped out- so I got another PS3.

There is yet to be a game that I actually want to play that will make me drop the bank for it. $400 is a lot of money these days.

For the PS3 it was metal gear. In a way I'm glad people have moved on, because I'm playing alot of PS3 games that are going for cheap.

The PS4 would cost about $320 out of pocket for me right now which seems pretty reasonable... but the point about there being no big game titles that differentiates one from the other is true... Maybe the most prudent option is to wait?

Theres yet to be a game that differenciates them from the ps3 and 360. Right now its the same games with a slight uptick in graphics. Great new games will come in time. Just wait as long as possible or an amazing sale. At this point the biggest difference is the controller preference and ps4 is slightly more powerful.

I have a PS4 and it is finally coming out of its "$500.00 paper weight" state with all the new games that are out.

If you can't go PC I would suggest PS4 for games and Xbone for sports/teen chat.

i went XBONE. because call of retard is always released first on it and thats all i play. its a reasonably nice console. i like that it goes into standby when i power it off and i can go right into multiplayer call of retard as soon as it starts off. basicly exactly where i stopped last time i played. also has fancy voice controls and stupid stuff like that.

Looking at the two consoles, I just can't justify purchasing the PS4 from a graphics standpoint. But then again I was the guy who worked for SCEA who refused to buy a PS2 and still played the PS when they dropped lol. Maybe when they start dropping games that really challenge the system performance wise but I still have so much fun with my PS3.

I'm still on PS2.

I never did catch on to the new wave of new gen consoles. I have about 5-6 PS3 games because my old roommate had a PS3 and that might get one since PS4 means PS3 stuff is cheaper.

Most games I might play, I just watch all of the cutscene compilations on youtube and get the story just fine. Too many games these days are just interactive movies, IMO.

I'm far from a PC advocate but I play Star Craft and Counterstrike more than I ever played PS3 when I had one available. :dunno
