Pinched Nerve from Leathers

Pinched (compressed) my peroneal nerve in my shifting leg. Leathers are too tight around the leg, near the knee in particular. Experienced foot drop for about 4 weeks. It sucked. Still recovering...

Had EMG Nerve Conduction tests, that was a very unpleasant feeling. The doctor sends electric current through your nerve and measures latency to find where the damage occurs. Then, the needle test where a needle is inserted into the muscle then measure the body's electrical signals while you flex. That also sucked and was very unpleasant.

Tried emailing Helimot to have them do alterations and add more material around the legs. No reply from them so I'll try and call next week.

Anyone heard of or experience this type of injury?

Sorry, I'm a bit late, but I too had intense nerve pain around the back of the inner knees when in full crouch in my first set of leathers. after a single day on track I could hardly bend my knees at all. I tried altering the leathers to give me some more space(there's a guy here on BART called The Leather Guy), which helped a bit, but in the end getting a different set made all the difference. My current set is a bit TOO big everywhere else, but just right at the knee. I plan on tailoring the rest of it DOWN, because it's obviously easier to take material away than it is to put it in.
Anyway, hope you've healed well. I would definitely experiment with a few other sizes and brands of racing suits to prevent it from happening in the future.
good luck!

thanks for the reply. I'm getting my leathers modified by Pilot USA. They are adding better quality stretch material and also accordion style stretch panels (vertically) around the area.

I drove to their office to get sized up. It was on the way to San Diego. They seem top notch but they are taking a long time. I think they serve all their AMA racers first and leave the mere mortals for last. I'm still waiting for them to ship back.

Will let you know how they fit once I get them back and do a track day!
