Pics- playing at the Pismo sand dunes

Wil, Liz, Cain and I cruised down to Pismo a few weeks back, it was my first time in real sand dunes and I love it! Can't wait to go back soon and find some better jumps!

I'm still very happy with my WR250f, it's light, easy to throw around and plenty of power.

Here are pics/vids of the shenanigans. :ride

I love the roost pattern the paddles make!

Cains brother took me for a fun ride in his Tacoma, he's done this before.

I suggested to cain we should jump it at the same time, so we did several times. Up the wall 3rd gear pinned....

While it's important to not nose dive, it's also good to not go nose up to far...

This one went well, I think it was the last one I did. No need to push my luck too far.

Liz cam. NSFW language. lol

We left around 4, high tide was 5:30pm, no idea how these folks didn't get stuck!
So many cars parked at the edge of the soft sand, blocking the pathway along the water.....and the water was rising fast.

Yeah... I have to work on that reactionary vocab. I must have been a sailor in a past life.

Looks like too much fun. Most definitely on my to-do list.
Obviously paddles at the rear.....anything special up front? Gotta add the cost of tires to my travel budget.

can you rent those bikes at Pismo? I would love to do this

I didn't see dirt bikes for rent, but there are a couple businesses that rent quads and small sand rails on the beach there.

Jeff, we only changed the back to a paddle, normal front dirt tire works fine.

I might be going again next weekend, anyone want to join us? Friday hotel, ride Sat.

Have you guys tried knobbies in the rear instead of paddles? What do you guys think about it?

I don't hit the sand very often, I'm on the fence on investing on a tire, used of course.

I've been to Ocotillo Wells and several trips Baja on normal dirt tire in some sand, it's more challenging but can be done. We saw a few people on knobbies at Pismo. Once you get the bike moving you're fine.
A cheap paddle is only $55, plus mounting.

I've always feared sand as a motorcycle destroyer. I keep hearing you have to take your bike completely apart after a trip to the dunes and thats a huge turn off to me.
But that looks like awesome fun! Maybe I'll give it a try [on somebody else's bike hopefully :laughing]

The sand wasn't too bad on my bike, what I didn't realize to watch out for was my tools. Snapped a spark plug wire out there, had to do some quick patching, didn't think to open my toolbag for a month or so after, guess who needs a new set of pliers?
