Parking in Angels Camp (or nearby)

I'd like to spend a day riding the dirt in Stanislaus forest, but am less than thrilled about the idea of slogging there on the 690. Yes, I know it can do it. No, I don't want to.

Know of anyplace in the area of Angels Camp that I can leave a pick-up truck safely for a day or two while I go exploring?

Where are you headed? Arnold area? In Angels, there’s a large parking lot by the Starbucks or a little further south by the SaveMart and CVS. There’s another strip mall in Arnold also if that’s where you’re headed. A little more info and I can give you some options.

I'm planning to ride around near Lake Alpine and Utica Reservoir. I haven't been up there in years, and that was in a 4x4. Just looking to piddle around and maybe camp.

Arnold is pretty much the last town with any amenities (besides the very basics: fuel etc) as you head up 4. There’s also access to the Stanislaus through White Pines Lake area which is in Arnold. If you’re looking for a good burger, try “The Lube Room” in Dorington on your way up the hill. I bet it’s beautiful up there right now and not nearly as sweltering as the lower foothills. I’d imagine you could get forest maps at the USFS station in Hathaway Pines. Lots of places to see up there. Enjoy!
