Pacific Track Time's 2020 Season Opener Weekend at Sonoma Raceway w/NRS - Feb 22nd/23rd (Sat/Sun)

Question regarding Sonoma’s 103db rule. How do they measure? Is there a db device just off track similar to what I’ve heard about Laguna? Wondering as I’m sure mine will blow 103db easily on accel.

I’ll be there. I have not done Sonoma in February. I remember I was told that turn 2 (?) is the one to watch when cold. What’s the expectation this early in the year?

It’s in the exit of 11 as you’re getting on the straight I believe. 103 is pretty loud and I haven’t seen many people blow sound at Sonoma.

Turns 2 and 3 will get the most bikes. Honestly at Sonoma you need to watch the whole track if it’s rained recently because water will seep through the cracks.

I'd recommend not crashing your shit. :laughing

I think turn 2 is risky only it you take it at speed on your warm up lap. Take it easy the first lap, maybe even the second if it's really cold. Then have fun!

I am pretty sure most literbikes with a full system and a shorty exhaust could blow sound. A year or so ago I was measured at 104db with a 2011 S1000RR and a shorty Akrapovic (titanium headers), had to short shift right after exiting 11 after that.

fwiw, we've been doing the season opener the past few years now and I've seen a few loud bikes out there and didn't see anyone getting nailed for it. I'd say just make sure you got some type of end can on your bike and you're alright

New gen R1's are usually the worst offender. Mine got me meatballed at 103.9 when I didn't short shift.

I got popped last year at a track day and during practice at AFM, but the bike was stupid loud. 106 with that pipe. Would definitely be cautious as it was basically a 1 strike rule for me.
