Outstanding Warrants

I have several clients with outstanding arrest warrants (misdos) for cases that were discharged by the DA's Office and then later filed. As I understand it, the Santa Clara Sheriff's Dept. has issued a directive to not pursue arrest warrants at this time. I am wondering if other agencies are taking this approach to non-violent, low-level arrest warrants? (Let's say for warrants $10K or less)

It varies by agency, county, and jail. It also depends on whether the warrant is eligible for cite/release or not.

For misdo warrants that are eligible for cite and release, I think that citing them is probably gonna be the norm for more jurisdictions during this pandemic.

What makes a warrant cite/release?

Generally less serious crimes. Misdemeanors with low bail amounts, usually $6,000 or less, but could be for higher bail amounts, especially now. Often times distance from jurisdiction comes into play, as if it's from out of state or a far away county they often won't extradite, or pick up on the warrant. We don't cite and release an out of state warrant. It's either serious enough for extradition or it's not.

Case by case basis. When we encounter them, we're contacting the jail to see if they'll take them first.
