One year

Today marks one year since my hit and run on my motorcycle. I'm still not 100%, but I am a damn sight better than I was that day.
Two broken ribs on the left side, broken left collarbone, 2" diameter and ¼" deep puncture wound to my left ankle and various contusions and scrapes. The only road rash was minor. Both knees got it and my elbows got only a slight touch of it through my jacket sleeves. My gear did it's job as things could have been much worse.
The bike was repaired and fortunately the tank didn't get a scratch.
I was completely laid up for more than two months getting the initial healing out of the way on my ankle and bones. Then in February I had to have surgery to repair a torn labrum in my right hip so that set things back again.
All I want to do it to get back to normal and it just seems to be taking forever.

Be glad that soon you will be able to ride again. Could have been much worse. Keep the fire stoked and give your body some time.

What gear did you have, by the way?

Glad you're at least doing better than those first couple months. It will be good to see you back out there when you heal up more fully!

Very sorry to hear OP. I had an accident which compares in no way to what occurred to you.. It was a mountain bike accident in which I slammed my knee into a rock.. Everyday was a struggle.. Took me almost an hour to get out of bed (knee felt like it was going to explode when it went vertical). Took almost 6 months to a year to get back to 100% .. I kept feeling like that day would never come. I appreciated life soo much more. I took stake in many things I never did before. The simplest things brought me pleasure and it reminded me how precious life is and how fortunate I was to simply be alive.

The road to recovery can be long. I hear you on that and you have had to go through much worse than I have. Hang in there brother and as crazy as it sounds, you are appreciating many aspects of life you probably wouldn't have before. My injury and others (Post Vitreous Detachment) in my late 20's to right eye have definitely changed me and for the better. I sometimes think how sad it was how I wasn't able to stop and smell the flowers before. Amazing thinking just how fortunate you are to see, hear, and taste.

Godspeed on the recovery Randy :thumbup

Not as fast as I look.

I am a bit confused. What gear did what job? If you were wearing my gear, you wouldn't have any road rash. :dunno

These injury things can take a long time. Some things never go away. I have several of those, unfortunately. But, I ride, and so will you. :thumbup

I had on a jacket, helmet and gloves, but I was wearing jeans and shoes. The leather on my elbows started to wear through so I had small scrapes on my elbows and some nice bruises on them as well. I ended up with some rash on my knees, but it wasn't bad or deep.
So yes, the gear I was wearing did it's job. My head, hands and torso were not all rashed up, only the little that came through the sleeves on the leather and just some bruising and broken bones. And then the lack of boots allowed my foot peg to puncture my left ankle. That was a fun one.
