On the Way to John Day

Lakview Oregon, met up with MC Mentor and KC Couple to see fossils in eastern Oregon. Not really, I'm only willing to stop once to see stuff that makes me feel very very young.
Squiggly lines are the main attraction. To goat is another question

Rode through the area a couple years ago and even 395 had some decent curves so we're going to stay and ride around a couple days then move northwest

Looks like a great trip once you get to Redding. Looking forward to your report.

Looks pretty well cooked.
After Lakeview OR have a look at 140 east to 205 north through the Steens.
It's paved and goes through the Malheur Wetlands at the north end.
Watch for antelope.

I can't ride 55!

Took 395 from the northeast corner and after the inspection station expected the dreaded 55mph sign. 10 miles in and the sign says 65 !!! Oregon got with it :). Went straight up to John Day, checked in and did a few hours west of town.
Sumpter - Ukiah road, sections of spring repaving, and south on what is probably the best riding section of 395!:ride.
bcj may try the Steens on the way home , unless the holy trinity calls me towards the coast:twofinger

I'll be back !

My favorite roads either side of John Day were Rowe Creek Road to the west and NF20 /Upper Middle Fork road north out of Austin Junction to the east. The latter had new pavement, no center stripe yet, but both meandered and were very geologically fascinating. Very different and most all the roads we encountered were paved recently. 395 north of here had some very sporty sections, rode thrice to be sure:twofinger
My favorite road of the trip was NF 25 northeast of Mt. St. Helens, curvy pavement that required more attention as I rode north and the road bed was giving way.
