appropriate for boys and girls to attend sleep over party? what are your thoughts?

sooooo.... just trying to get some perspectives from different people. my 11 year old son has a best friend who is leaving to move back to Brazil with his mom. his father lives in Oakland and owns a large warehouse space that is regularly rented out for big parties. we got the invitation today for the party where they will have the resident DJ playing music along with a bunch of video games being projected on the walls and then there are 2 separate sleeping areas, 1 for boys and 1 for girls. there will be a big breakfast in the morning and then final goodbyes before his friend leaves that night.

there will be half a dozen or more responsible adult chaperones as well.

I don't have a problem with my son staying the night, my wife on the other hand is freaking out with the idea. A lot of it has to do with what her church friends will think about her. Me , I don't believe in organized religion and am a heathen according to most of her friends. well that and church on sunday gets in the way of my match shooting

so who is right and who is wrong? I will be a chaperone if need be so he can stay the night but really i dont't see the big deal and i don't think she would either if she hadn't been born again in her crazy ass church she attends.

Giggity
you remember when you were that age? i hear it's worse (or better if you're a kid) today. lol

there will be shit going down when the parents are asleep unless the kids are complete dweebs.

if i had a son, i'd tell him good luck. if i had a daughter i'd lock her in the basement.

FLCL?
Time for new friends, and two sleeping areas, adults, not sure what the big deal is. Maybe time for that talk with the son also, to imbarrace the shit out of him. :laughing

Be Here Now
My first co-ed sleepover was a very similar instance. Rented out a sports facility thing down in San Diego, all night basketball, baseball, batting cages, laser tag. Was too young to think about getting any though I did wind up getting some boob by the end of the evening while playing truth or dare....

On second thought, don't let him do it, you don't want him turning out like me :laughing

Did she freak out about nap time in kindergarten too??? Hope you don't have a daughter living under the same roof. What would people think?!?!?!
I brought up the co ed middle school church camp he went to last year and will again go to this year, but oh noooo it's different she says:laughing
He's 11. What's the worst-case scenario here?

I don't believe there is one, but i told her i would post a poll here as well as cal guns to get 2 opposite ends of the spectrum. I have no issues with him going.:teeth

is the adult sleeping area between the kids two areas?

if so then not much to worry about unless they're all ninjas in training:ninja

We're shooting for the whole 'equality' thing these days, aren't we? As long as they aren't showering together...

They're 11
if your wife is worried about 11 year olds boning she has some more serious problems to worry about

Kids will be curious but there are adults. And what her church thinks? I guess it's a church so the idea of sexy, sexy little boys isn't completely irrational within that community but they can mind their own business, too.

I think it is a great idea for the kids and I would have no problem with it as long as I was involved because I would want to be. Whats the big issue if responsible adults are around?

Did you have sex with your wife before marriage? Ask her what her church friends think of that.
