That was right up the street from my house and I go past there every day. Pretty much everyone on my street has a Harley so it could be any one of them. Really dangerous intersection, especially at night when it's hard to gauge how far a bike is from a single headlight.

So sorry to hear this. I hope he is able to make a full recovery, without significant damage to his financial health too.

With cell phones, entertainment systems and cars that are so quiet on the inside, I think this is happening more often than it used to.

Heal up rider.

I also live down the road and that intersection is no worse than others in the area. For whatever reason it sounds like the mini van "didn't see" the moto. It's discouraging that this happens so often despite all of the ad campaigns and attempts to educate drivers.

"According to the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District, the collision occurred when the vehicle turned out infront of the motorcyclist at the intersection."

Isn't that the most common motorcycle collision reason? I mean when will the drivers get enough educated to NOT make a turn in front of a bike? I wish there was some way to educate drivers... Common sense isn't enough, apparently!!!! :mad

Rider heal up soon!

I think the only reason that intersection is bad is because it's commonly used by people going out to the Byron highway. Combine that street with being one a lot of people want to turn on (plus the gas station) and the general speed of vehicles on Cypress (fast) and it's asking for a lot of collisions like that. I know every time I approach it and a car is coming who could make a left there I am already slowing down and ready to evade...and several times I've been right to be prepared.

Reminds me of Highway 101 in Prunedale where there are cars trying to make left hand turns across two lanes of freeway with cars going 80mph. Had the most horrific grinders there.

Hope the rider heals up.
