"o-ring-safe" carb bath/dip?

Howdy,

I've got to rebuild a pair of FCRs that have been sitting for 10 years. U4 had been used; flushed a couple of tanks of pump gas.

Sudco says.. I can soak them if I use o-ring-safe cleaner. The Internet is confusing me this morning.

Recommendations?

They're going to be really gunky :)

Thanks.

PS: Sudco says "do NOT crack the midbody. Keihin won't sell us those o-rings because 'no mere mortal can install them correctly'". :)

I wouldn't risk it. O ring safe carb dip is likely not worth the effort. FCRs are pretty simple I'd tear them down as far as you can and apply the nastiest carb cleaner you can only where needed.

Last I was inside one the important passages are pretty easy to access once you pull the fuel inlet, float valve seat and jetting. All that stuff can go in a tiny cup of dip.

Get a brass float valve needle thingy. The aluminum ones get quickly.corroded by CA booze-gas

Whatever you do, don't use ordinary orings for replacement. They must be Viton. And the orings in Keihins are good quality but they do get old and crack and degrade.

I thought a few companies have an FCR midbody kit?

Somebody linked me to a UK company that does. BUT.. since my only interest is in getting this running well enough to make an honest sale, I'm not going to crack that open.

I got an ultrasonic cleaner today. DI water and an ounce of simple green will be my experiment on the jets and stuff.
