No WSBK in America next year

Sad. Such a fun series, and it'll even better now with Bautista and Redding to put a scare into Rea. I'm surprised COTA doesn't jump on this, or even Sonoma.

There's no way Sonoma could afford to bring WSBK there. Plus it is so far from a world class facility in its current shape.

Sucks though. I was really hoping to see WSBK next July. :thumbdown

There are a few American tracks that might be able to host WSBK, but for sure it is disappointing to have none going.

COTA would of course be cool and we know Marquez would not win it. :p

I wouldn't go today, but I enjoyed the races at Miller (or whatever it's called today). Loved seeing them pull down that front straight.

It is a major bummer. Laguna seca has been an annual trip for me and the guys for the last ten years. I might have to reduce myself to watching cars race this year.

Anyone knows the reasons why WSBK will not come to Laguna Seca ? Is it because not enough spectators showed up the last couple years ?

nope. no one has published any credible information explaining why. complaints about management changes, cost, lack of spectators, etc is all speculation.

Laguna generally has avg attendance compared to other WSBK rounds. in 2018, that event was 5th out of 13 rounds for highest attendance.

There is but one reason "why"; Money. A deal couldn't be made, its that simple.

Pretty much. If all the parties involved can't make a buck then shit happens we don't like to see when it comes to what we desire to see.

I was looking forward to being a corner worker again with my son. That was a great experience and I'm glad we got to do it! Maybe again someday......

My understanding is that there's no one to negotiate with. TDP's aren't booking either.

No American riders in the paddock.

That probably has a bit to do with it.

Let's face it, the USA hasn't had any real contender for awhile at the top levels of motorcycle road racing.

WSBK was off the schedule for this past year at Laguna Seca and was added only after the races in Malaysia fell through. I don't think getting dropped has anything to do with the management change, just pure economics.

Former MotoAmerica Superbike racer Garrett Gerloff is signed to race on the GRT Yamaha World Superbike team in 2020.

Gerloff has already ridden the bike at an official WSBK test at Aragon where he was just a few tenths off the factory Yamaha riders despite Gerloff's first time at Aragon and first time on the Pirelli tires. He will be testing again at Jerez next Tuesday and Wednesday.
