From Miller Motorsports Park

AMA Pro Racing Portion of FIM HANNspree Superbike World Championship Weekend at Miller Motorsports Park Cancelled

TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (March 20, 2009) ? Officials at Miller Motorsports Park announced today that the AMA Pro Racing portion of the FIM HANNspree Superbike World Championship weekend, May 29-31, has been cancelled.

Originally, the plan had been for the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL and AMA Pro SuperSport presented by Shoei series to share the bill with the HANNspree Superbike World Championship and FIM Supersport World Championship events. Unfortunately, track officials were unable to come to an agreement with AMA Pro Racing and the decision was made to cancel the AMA Pro portion of the event.

"AMA Pro Racing has been a part of Miller Motorsports Park since the track opened in 2006," said MMP Director of Racing Mitch Wright, "and we have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship and some great racing during that time. It is most unfortunate that we were unable to reach an agreement with AMA Pro for this year's event, but it was a business decision that had to be made. We hope to be able to have the AMA Pro teams, riders and officials back at Miller Motorsports Park in the years to come."

"It is regrettable that we were not able to agree on terms with AMA Pro Racing for this year's event," said MMP CEO/President Dan Davis. "Roger Edmondson and his group have been great to work with and both sides negotiated in good faith, but we were unable to bridge the gap between what they felt they needed and what we felt was equitable. Hopefully we can work together again in the future."

"We worked closely with our friends at Miller Motorsports Park in attempting to conclude a business relationship but in the end we were unsuccessful," said AMA Pro Racing President Roger Edmondson. "Although we are disappointed about this turn of events, we hope to return to the Miller facility in the coming years and look forward to their 2009 FIM World Superbike race that marks the return of reigning AMA Pro Road Racing Champion Ben Spies to his home country."

MMP officials will have an announcement regarding a replacement event for the AMA Pro classes in the very near future.

AMA Pro and Miller Motorsports Park Announce Cancellation of AMA Pro Road Racing Events
AMA Pro Daytona SportBike and SuperSport Races to be Rescheduled at Another Venue
DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (March 20, 2009) - AMA Pro Racing and Miller Motorsports Park officials jointly announced today that the AMA Pro Road Racing events previously scheduled to be part of the FIM World Superbike weekend, May 29 - 31, at the Utah road course have been cancelled. That weekend's AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL and AMA Pro SuperSport presented by Shoei races will now be rescheduled for another venue in 2009.

Miller Motorsports Park has previously run an AMA Pro Road Racing weekend every year since the Salt Lake City road course debuted in 2006.

"AMA Pro Racing has been a part of Miller Motorsports Park since the track opened in 2006," said MMP Director of Racing Mitch Wright, "and we have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship and some great racing during that time. Great move DMG, the closest thing we have in America to a real European-spec course they cancel. Probably couldn't agree on a "rolling start" placement. Not that I care, I've already purchased my tickets to see the big-boys from WSBK

That was one of the better race tracks that AMA raced on!

Maybe they'll replace that round with one at Pike's Peak. :laughing

Will they need an AWD pace car? :teeth I know, I know..There's a road course there too. You're right though, that IS a fantastic track. In a sad way the AMA may end up saving some dignity by not being there.

That's fucked up. One of the reasons I'm going was to talk to some of the riders. :mad

Fixed. :teeth

Translation: DMG was trying to get too good of a deal for itself and refused to budge.

Not really surprised, DMG didn't want to support the world championships at Miller and Laguna from the beginning, egos are too big to accept second-billing. WSB can move forward with WSS, although that's a thin bill. But Laguna has bigger problems, they can't really handle 250 and maybe 125, mostly from a cost standpoint. Of course DMG won't care if they kill off that round, plays into their "we get to define what motorcycle racing is in this country" monopoly thinking.

Time for the factories and aftermarket to really push that MIC series for 2010...

I can just see Spies standing there with his fellow WSBK riders, with palms raised in defense, saying "Hey, don't look at ME man!!!!! I'm not part of that shit!!!:wtf

Speculation and poor fact-checking.

WSS will be at Miller.

AMA= DY-no-MITE!

DMG= kid with matches

When all of the BARF crowd (loyal audience) starts turning away from watching AMA, there's no hope for the series. If you can't even hit your TARGET AUDIENCE, you're damn sure not going to pick up any fairweather fans.

Didn't he just say that? :p

Well, yeah, that is what I was saying, but to be fair, I can see how one might read it as WSS replacing the AMA classes. Even if Jim was a little anxious to go head-hunting there...

Why wouldn't Miller pay up? AMA can't do this shit for free. :laughing

Given that they weren't even going to run ASB, it seems DMG should have been paying Miller to run that crap. And the fans to sit there and watch it...

That's rock-solid truth, right there. Maybe I will let you buy me a beer at Miller. :teeth
