Newsom proposes EV only for new cars in 2035

No.
Maybe 2040 if the battery/distance issues have been resolved, level 2 chargers everwhere and you don't need to pay 30k for a LiveWire or similar bike.

Just not sold in California. You can still buy them out of state and bring them in, so what's the difference?

Lets do our best to keep this non political.. will be hard.

Influence... a little yes. Does not seem that moto's are in the mandate.

Trucks I assume are smaller passenger trucks.

It's bad enough making vroooom vrooooom sounds on an electric bike but now they are going to require you to do the same in a car.
That's beyond reasonable.:wtf

I honestly do not think too many people will be buying cars by then or within a few years of then. Further, I suspect the electric cars will be the majority of cars sold well before that date because the battery tech will improve by then.

Just my view looking back on the electric car development over the last 15 years and extrapolating similar growth and development over the next 15 years...

I would be perfectly happy to purchase a carbon neutral fuel at a premium if it meant I can continue to use an ICE.

Two thoughts,
#1 My used car just went up in value.

#2 If it’s a Governor mandate, does that mean the next Governor can over turn it?

I also think that as battery cars get longer range, faster charges and more charging stations battery cars will eventually replace gas powered cars anyways.

So now let’s start figuring out how the roads are going to be paid for!
Because at this time electric cars are not paying their fair share.

He’s dreaming. It won’t happen for many, many years, if ever. Besides the impracticality of EV’s, there’s also the extra load on the electrical grid. Heck, it’s inadequate right now. And it’s going to get worse with mandated power plant shutdowns. Add to that the fires we will continue to have because of forest mismanagement which decreases solar output dramatically, and the ill-advised push for all electric homes, etc., etc....it will never happen.

My car does 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and the only sounds you can hear are the passengers screaming in fear while the driver laughs maniacally. Seems like an improvement to me :laughing

That said, I don't see any way that the state will have enough charging infrastructure by 2035 to support this mandate.

There will be an inflection point at which electric vehicles enter the budget car market, and at that point I think you will begin to see sales growth take off exponentially.

If I could pick up a not terrible looking electric car in the 18-25k range, there is no way I would stick with a ICE vehicle. As it stands I may end up getting a Model 3 or similar for my next car, depending on what is out in 5 years.

Is this legally enforceable?

Of course it is.

Bought any leaded gas recently?

Register any modern street two strokes recently?

Seen any cars without passive restraints recently?

Did you know there's a large sucking sound of diesel trucks being vacated throughout the state right now because they can no longer be registered?

In case you haven't noticed, all houses being built from this year onward are to be solar powered.

So, yes, they can do this.

We'll see how practical it turns out to be, no doubt there will be lots of litigation surrounding it.

Whether it's accomplished in the end, who knows, but they can certainly start working on making it a reality.

2035 is a long time away. How old will you be in 2035?

Not that I care. I don't buy new cars or motorcycles anyway.

I have a 1976 GMC MotorHome which is difficult to smog (because most places to not have the right machine) and is difficult to fuel because it not play nice w/the hoods on the pump nozzle. It has a 455 V8, runs nice and California DMV continues to take my money in exchange for tags. I don't expect it to change.

And whoever asked about the last time I bought leaded fuel, it was the last time I fueled my airplane. I'm thinking Friday.
