NEW AFM CLASS???

Getting Older and Faster
Now that the F40s have been broken into two races, it seems there is room for a second wave/race with the Lights (only a few of F40 Lt NVs; me, MIke and Pierson. Maybe more to come now that it is not a back to back race from Clubmen Lt). And since the Afemmes are already there on Saturday, why not add/create Afemmes Lights?

Just feels like there should be a place for the ladies that want to be competitive and not ride a liter bike.

This all came about after watching Supermoto USA at Sonoma. There were a bunch (12ish???) of young ladies riding 125s and 250s in their female class.

Thanks,
Patrick

I hear Melissa Paris is going to show up on her 250 and try to smoke all of our butts, whether we ride 1000s or 600s or whatever. I say bring it on. The AFM should charge extra for spectators to watch the girl's races. :D

+1 I already pay extra to watch my girl race ;-)

I'll say it:

Why? So we can have another grid with 1, 2 or maybe 3 bikes on it? Sorry, no. There's not enough riders to support that class. At best it'll split the current class and make two 2 or 3 bike races. Oh what a joy that is.

Good idea, sure, but until there are riders to fill the grid I say shelve the idea.

IMO, the class/grid is already too small. I like the bigger grids... I'm still bitter about AFemme Novice being split from Expert, since the whole point of the Afemme class was to get new racer girls out there together and I like racing with everyone.

Plus, several of the Nov and Exp girls are very close in pace and it would be more fun for the racers and spectators to see the battles.

If we were to split into a lightwt/heavywt then Novice and Expert should be combined again, but most girls are on middlewt bikes anyway, so you would have a 2-3 bike grid in lights, 4-6 in mid and 1-3 in heavy... I think we need more girls to race before we starting splitting the grids anymore.

Not quite 12 ladies/girls in SMUSA yet, about 5-9 usually.

Exactly.

Thus is the problem with the entire novice/expert split thing right now. When grids grow (and they will), it won't be a problem, but for now it poses an interesting challenge and limits the ability for the club (IMO) to create a light/middle/heavy class. (Not just for Afemme, for many others too)
