Never thought I'd see the day...

...but I look around my garage and find it currently devoid of motorcycles. We just sold the last one several days ago. SIP, winter, work obligations, changing interests, and an ongoing clutch-hand issue have all eaten into my riding time. Am hoping that things evolve and that I might get back into it, and I'll be doing it on a new bike if so!

I gotta say, having two 1994 Italians in the stable could at times be hard on the bank account. It's nice not having that to worry about. I've still got a 1986 German and a 2001 Japanese (four-wheels) sitting around, so no lack of vehicles to suck up my resources.

This was my first year since the late 80s that I'm down to one moto, actually have my car in the garage for the first time since I bought it in 1994 and put exactly zero miles on a motorcycle in a calendar year.

The bike sits with a blown fork seal from my last ride which was in 2019.

Did put over 1000 on my bicycle which, for me, is huge as my bicycles sat unridden for decades.

The "thrill" is gone in terms of moto riding for me but I'll hold onto the last moto as I know if I get rid of it I'll just go out and buy another which would be financially dumb.

Been spending $ on suspension upgrades on the sports car and thus driving it more.

When I had a clutch hand issue I solved it with a DCT bike, though I found other potential solutions as well.

Doesn't solve changing interests or lack of time though.

The clutch thing just adds a layer of complexity to things--it's time to change it or limiting my choices of bikes. I can't just ride anything anymore. Lack of time is the bigger issue. I seem to average about 2 hours of free time on an average weekend. I used to spend an entire day practically every weekend devoted to riding before I had the business.

Rolls with it...
A lot of bikes also have the easy pull clutches if you don't like the clutchless models....

Hope you're back on 2 wheels when you want to be! :thumbup

Haven’t been riding much either. Thinking of parking my bike in the living room as an art piece. Not ready to be without a bike.

look at the modern bikes with quickshifter / autoblippers. you only need to use the clutch to start and stop with those setups. :)

Yup. I have one left that I am selling. I figure if I start riding again, I will buy another one.

I do have a new Carbon Fiber bicycle that I love!

Bay Area RUST forum

I also have 2 bikes that, before covid 19, were my ( A, B) daily commuters / throttle therapy.
Now they spend weeks unridden, and the last time I was on the Kawi, I noticed the clutch pull was giving my left hand grief.

The rust is strong when I do get a chance to swing a leg over and go for a ride

at the same time I have an adult son who is new to riding, so his eagerness inspires me

weird to have an awesome forum dedicated to motorcycles, populated by the bike-less.

I'm still wrapping my brain around fuel injection...now you tell me that I don't need a clutch?? (Actually, do electric bikes have clutches? I like the idea of e-bikes, but I hear they're heavy...)

Don't scoff, but I think y'all need to go out and get yourselves groms or z125's. Seriously giggle inducing and super handy for errands around town. You get the joy of 2 wheel motor fun and you also get to feel like a little kid. If though, you find you don't laugh in your helmet, just sell it for more than you paid:laughing

I might have to go get a stupid scooter. I used to be such a snob about them... it would serve me right. (plus they are hella fun.)

I have a 2021 NC750 DCT on order from Berkeley Honda. It's not my hand, it's my foot. Too much shifting while riding SF streets. In the meantime I limit my riding to 2-3 hours every other day or so, when it's not raining.

I just picked up a 2015 nc700x and I expected to be completely underwhelmed; I have been more than surprised by this totally unassuming Honda.

More adventures on their way...

We're a buncha closet non-riders. :laughing
It's just the non-riders who were quickest to respond to this post. :cool

I dropped out of riding for about nine years when I first moved to California. Tried other things. Eventually I figured out that I really missed it and started buying bikes again, starting with the 1997 Monster.

Somewhere in the middle of my bike-less phase I had tendonitis in my left wrist, which probably would have been an issue with clutch usage if I were riding at the time. Eventually got over that.

I intend to be a rider up until the end now. :ride
