I'll be in Death Valley Nov 25-30. Doesn't quite align with your times though; but I do recommend DV for adventure rides!
I've also got a block of time off around New Years and havn't been able to corrupt anyone into a Dual Sport ride yet.
This last weekend I just got done running Usal Rd up near Sinkyone national forest on my xr650L. A little bit of water , the conditions were awesome.

yes, there are, along the steele's pass route I believe, although I havn't personally been that far north in the park's off road areas. Lippencott was on my hotlist for this this trip ....

Plenty of places down south are great for the winter, check out Arizona, Nevada, and places in California like Ridgecrest if you're into the dirty stuff. If you're just looking for a long ride, you can always do Vegas, Laughlin and the Grand Canyon.

If you want to go to Death Valley, Ridgecrest/Trona/Joburg can be a 2 day detour. Jawbone is in the same area, but not as good as it used to be unless you like hillclimbs. And then there's always the Husky Memorial in the same area.

By the way, you miss this by one day.

Ahem, I just got back from 8 days on the road, five of them in Baja yesterday (sorting over 400 pics and 20+ hours of video footage now, ride report pending!) and I can say it's a fucking awesome way to spend a week! :teeth

If you want route tips then lemme know as I was just there!

The roughest part is getting from here to the border, I spent two days on the way down (SF to Ojai, Ojai to La Mesa) and legged it back from Tecate in one day yesterday (560 miles of boring ass slab-work). Wrap those around five straight days in Baja and it kicked ass! My in-Mexico loop was:

La Mesa (east San Diego) to San Felipe (approx. 250 miles on-road)
San Felipe to Gonzaga Bay (approx. 115 miles, half of that off-road)
Gonzaga Bay to El Rosario de Arriba (approx. 150 miles, the first 30 off-road)
El Rosario to Eréndria (approx. 150 miles, a good 30 or so off-road)
Eréndria to Eréndria* (approx. 200 miles, 20 or so off-road)
Eréndria to east of Tecate (approx. 190 miles, something like 30-40 off-road)

*I was supposed to get to Mike's Sky Ranch this day but against advice I attempted to enter from the south and was honestly stopped cold. I came upon one steep and rough hill climb that I struggled with and eventually had to make the tough decision to back out on. Weak and frustrating, but it's about the journey, not the destination, right? :p

I don't know how much off-road you're looking for or what difficulty you can handle. I was riding my KTM 950 Adventure and I still consider myself a bit of an off-road noob (my trip showed me I'm more capable than I thought, but that I have sooooo far still to go :) ). The above makes for a nice five day loop and you can hotel it in every location if you want. The only rough off-road days were my rides into Eréndria (the coastal route I took proved rougher than expected) and my attempt to go to Mike's from the south (ugh!). Otherwise it's all quite manageable. Let me know if you want more details and I'll have some pictures up today so you can see for yourself.
