MotoGP's electric future with GP technical director

Agree, I cannot imagine quiet bikes going by. They'll need to do something about that.

It is good to hear DORNA is looking to the future.

The first thing that hit my mind with the sound thing was the old bill cosby thing where each kid had his own theme music for the sound in the Derby car thing.

And then there is this guy -- pretty damn good.!

So realistically we can make our own sounds... or the teams could. :laughing

When watching the electric race at Laguna it was odd to just here a hum and the chain noise. I think there was only 8 bikes or so and they spread out pretty fast. A big pack like Moto3 would be interesting to hear.

Looking forward to the progress.

Richard at Lightening has got an interesting thing going. Top notch stuff.
My mad professor neighbor designed and built his engine (and others).

You can see some smaller engine projects being R & D'd in my hood. I flipped one myself. While laying in the street the developer thanked me for providing important feedback. :laughing

Confused
They definitely need power taming at lower speeds! Now if we can just shrink a nuclear reactor down instead of batteries...

its kinda funny that electric bikes dont have almost perfect throttle response already. GP electronics in crazy sophisticated partially because getting the expected amount of power from the engine is not simple. but with an electric motor it is! i bet itd take a team of GP software engineers only a few days to make an electric bike amazing to ride. they might actually be completely bored with that flat torque "curve".

They've been testing the Lightning this year at COTA and then at Laguna. Some growing pains it sounds like, but they're getting things squared away. Loris Capirossi nearly looped it on pit exit so the power isn't an issue.
The last time Loris got eyeball prints on the inside of his visor had to have been in the 500 days. The Lightning and the Energica use chain drive. That's always good for a little racket. Straight cut drive gears can provide a pleasant whine. On an E-bike you can hear the other riders yelling at you.

this could be cool if they can attract some bigger names to participate. I think that's why the Formula E series is growing. because they have big names like piquet, senna, villeneuve etc. racing in it. Get casey stoner on one of those electric rockets and you have a lot of people's undivided attention in the series. hell, get some B squad wsbk racers in there and it would still be cool to watch

Hello, world!
HaHa
I really don't care what anyone thinks
I've had my ride on an electric bike
They are boring as hell
So go have your fun
Like Formula E, it's going nowhere.

My only experience with electric stuff so far was a day on electric go-karts, but I found them fun. What didn't you like about electric bikes?

an opinion on riding todays electric street motos is largely irrelevant for watching future GP electric race bikes on a track. apples to oranges really. its like saying that GP racing cant ever be exciting because riding a Ninja250 on the street is boring.

33.333% of the motorcycle experience is the feel and sound of internal combustion, participating or watching.
The E racing won't last.

You sound like the type of person who says they'll never buy a car if it doesn't have a clutch pedal.

Speaking of electric, my friend Eric shipped his Alta to France to run the ISDE...
but KTM has influence and has disallowed that. Apparantly the Alta is a better bike than the KTM Electric Freeride (as I believe the Euroversion is called)
