They had the schedule out early last year. This one is much better.

Good to see Sonoma hosting a national roadracing event again.

No word yet about increased factory participation in MotoAmerica for 2017?

Looking forward to another good season! They put on a good show this year for sure.

Nice to see Sears back on the list, shame it's right next to Laguna. I'm sure that's great for the teams, but two nationals back to back, from a fan point of view, one will certainly dilute the other in a "you just went last month" kind of way.

But still, at least it's there, so props for that.

with Laguna having WSBK, i doubt anyone would chose Sonoma OVER Laguna. im sure MA is already tempering their expectations for attendance at Sonoma. hopefully it wont be worse that Miller last year, which was so bad that rumors were floating around that MA would not return.

i do think that filling that stupid-long break from 2016 with even a poorly attended round is a good thing. 2 races in Aug is even better.

Sonoma management used to say that they barely broke even on AMA races in the years after MotoGP came to Laguna. Management said that all the Bay Area sponsors spent their money at Laguna for the bigger event and had no interest in shelling out for a smaller event in the same market. Maybe MotoAmerica's sanction fees are much lower?

Rain is unlikely in August so I guess this straddles the line of MotoAmerica claim that they won't race at any track that is not suitable for rain races.

We really enjoyed coming up to Sonoma, we liked Sonoma better than Laguna -- because is was kind of quiet. We haven't been to Laguna since the GP returned -- and that was insane enough to keep us away.

It was also fun towards the end there, they had AMA, plus a Moto-X and SuperMoto all going on at the same time, so it was a good show.

But yea, we'd do Fontana and Sonoma, and we also went to the 2nd year SBK was at Miller. Rent a car for $30/day at the airport and put 2000 miles on it. Good deal.

I guess Fontana is just that much more awful market wise that they're not able to make it work rather than Sonoma after Laguna.

I was stoked to see Sears back on the schedule and will hit Sonoma vs Laguna next year.
My cost is much less as I can trim two days off my trip AND Hotel pricing doesn't get overly inflated!
A lot of folks come from as far north as Canada to see the races and this might draw them back in as well.
As far as the vendors, i don't see it penciling out as they have to compete with the internet.
What does make sense is having demo rides or static displays.
Maybe set up a few activities for the the kids etc .
Also, having some seminars featuring the pro riders or mechanics talking about their craft would be super cool!

I will never forget the time DuckyFresh and I had a hotel room for Laguna MotoGP, it was an old building yet still they charged like $250 a night or something horrific like that. So I open the back window to check the view, all I see is a brick wall. No no, the wall was not 20 feet away, it was not a different building....I mean the window had been blocked with bricks. :laughing

Yes, in 05 the hotel we stayed in was so bad I slept in my clothes and was afraid to use the shower as I didn't want to disrupt their science experiment.
All that luxury for a mere $200 a night!:rofl
The past few years I have just rented a nice house and split the cost with friends.

well, while this upbeat, supportive chatter is nice & all,
the real Q is:

how many CRCers [for that matter, normal(?) barfers] will buy Sears Point MA tix.....?

me?
I'm in !

shitty that Superpole 1 is gone. FP2 Fri afternoon is going to be nuts for the slower SBKs and faster STK1000 racers. theyll have to push hard to make it into SP. a crash in that session by the faster SBK riders might force them down the grid cuz they wont be able to come through SP1.

im still on the fence about SBK racing on Sat.

Having SuperPole is a waste for MA right now. There are only six or so Superbikes. Maybe we'll see more next year but the grid is pretty shallow even with the STK bikes. With premier class racing on Saturdays now, I don't see a need for special qualifying sessions even from a spectator standpoint. There will be plenty to keep fans entertained both days.

i think SP is kinda silly watching it at the track because most ppl arent viewing live timing. it does make for an interesting TV segment though. i wonder what MA will do now that SP is half as long. will they even bother to broadcast it.

they are prob only keeping SP2 cuz Dunlop offered to bring Q tires.

My issue was with two Sunday Superbike/STK races there was no "event" for the big bikes and big names on Saturday.
