Throughout their long lives Sam and Bob shared a love of motorcycling, they had ridden together across decades, through divorces and job changes, political scandals and upheavals. Their greatest joy was their homespun race team and track day outings.

It was with great sadness that Sam told Bob that he had a terminal illness and that he was not long for this world. As Bob sat on death watch, he was there as Sam edged closer each day to his final reward and did what he could to make the passage easier for him.

"It's not the dying I mind so much as missing the riding," Sam said.

"I bet", Bob replied, "that God rides and heaven has a motorcycle just for you."

With a weakening voice, Sam whispered, "When I get there and find out, I'll come back somehow and let you know." With that promise spoken with his last breath, Sam died.

One week later, as Bob lay asleep in his bed he was startled awake by a thunderclap and a bright light in his bedroom. From the center of the white light he heard the voice of his departed friend, Sam. "Bob", Sam called from the aura, "there is riding in heaven and it's wonderful. The air is always cool and clear, the pavement is smooth and has high grip, the bikes are set up perfectly every time and the umbrella girls always say yes."

Coming fully awake Bob said, "I'm so glad for you, you deserved that reward".

"There is one downer", Sam replied.

Bob asked, "What's that?"

With just a moments hesitation Sam said, "You're on the starting grid for next Sunday".
