Similar to my previous MGR on Sat 1/3 Route but a NEW route :


Start Point : Hwy 9 >> 35 >> Alice's >> 84 >> La Honda >> San Gregorio Beach >> Hwy 1 south >> Santa Cruz -- Lunch @ Betty Burgers >> Soquel >> San Jose Road >> Summit Rd >> Old Santa Cruz Rd >> Bear Creek Rd @ Lexington Rervoir = End Point

Break down & Summary on THIS ride on Mon 1/19 :

  • Meet at the 76 gas station at bottom of Hwy 9 in Saratoga. Hwy 9 >> 35 Skyline Blvd >> Alice's = 2nd meet point to meet SF group @ 10-10:15am : stop for coffee, pictures...
  • Hwy 84 out via La Honda to San Gregorio Beach >> Highway 1 down to Santa Cruz
  • We'll have lunch in Santa Cruz @ Betty Burgers (831) 423-8190.
  • Hwy 1 to Soquel >> San Jose Rd >> Summit Rd >> Old Santa Cruz Rd to Bear Creek Rd @ Lexington Reservoir = RIDE END >> to get back to San Jose via Hwy 17.
Time(s) : 1) Meet at 9 am KSU at 9:30am SHARP 2) Meet at 10-10:15 at Alice/s !

Meeting Point(s) : 1) The 76 gas station at the bottom of Hwy 9, corner of Hwy 9 & Saratoga-Sunnyvale. There is a S$ across the street from the 76 station if anyone needs to get their caffeine fix ! ;) 2) Alice's where SB group will meet up with SF group.

Gas : Come with a full tank or get gas there. Of course there are a couple of gas pumps at Alice's and at the trading post across the street from Alice's. We could have a gas stop in Santa Cruz after lunch before hitting Hwy 1 ! ;)

Stops : We'll pull over as needed to regroup as necessary along the route. Good stopping points are on top of 35 before Alice's and at San Gregorio Beach.

Please observe ALL MGR rules already reiterated by ALL BARF group rides : courtesy, SAFETY, respect, blah blah blah. Ride your own ride !

Lunch : Betty Burgers 505 Seabright Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95062

End Point : Lexington Reservoir where Bear Creek Rd meets Hwy 17.


5:07pm 1/16 Update : Updated this post with lunch stop in Santa Cruz.
10:13am 1/18 Update : Updated this post with 2nd meeting point to pick up SF group at Alice's.

I MAY join you all, much like Throttle, can update Sunday evening. A lot will depend on how my budget is feeling LOL, with race season fast approaching and my current (seeking another) part time job on indefinite hold, things got really tight really fast.

that is interesting... I continue to be amazed how younger folks are ignorant about the music, civic, cultural, political stuff that happened in recent years. I guess I was the same once.

Still, lotsa cool shit happened in the 60's and 70's... Woodstock, Apollo, the computer... (80's an 90'? not so much)

Rambling now. Seriously, we did not have computers in the 70's. We were animal. Still, you guys rock. We live in most excellent times.

I ended up riding from Soquel to Los Gatos coming back from Kurt's SiS,SiF Pie Ride, 1/17/15 but somehow ended up from Summit Rd out to 17 and missed the last stretch of road up to Lexington Hills by the reservoir where it ends into 17. :wtf

Gotta look at the map again ! :x

I was a kid still in the 70s but I vaguely remember hearing adults in the family talking about Apollo! I lived through the boom of the XT & AT right here in the Silicon Valley !!! How many peeps know what 8086 & 8088 mean ? There is one super cool thing in 89 that I remember vividly : end of the Berlin Wall. I remember I wish I were still living in France to just drive to Berlin to pick up a brick !!!! I was overseas & living in Asia again most of the 90s.

In SF and debating between creating a new ride and meeting up with you guys. It's a little early for me (working all weekend) but I'm thinking I could meet you at Alice's. Are you going to stick around there? Could you establish a rough-meetup time there, like 10? If you're willing to coordinate a second meetup, I might be able to get some SF people to come down.

Most excellent idea !! Let's meet at ~10-10:15am @ Alice's. We'll hang around Alice's. Peeps can get a hot coffee / a snack at the trading post across the street. Please keep posting here to keep everyone updated. Also text me as you guys leave SF and we'll coordinate this ! :thumbup
